When the Alpha Chose His Pack Over His Mate Chapter 06

When the Alpha Chose His Pack Over His Mate Chapter 06

Rowen’s old packmates came to visit, and I was on my way to the kitchen to arrange for some refreshments when I overheard their conversation by the door.

One of the older packmates, Collin Gonzales, chuckled as he started the topic. “Rowen, I know you went through a lot for Sky back in the day, but I never thought you’d let go of the one who’s been by your side all these years.”

“The Northern Pack’s heir sent her back. I couldn’t just stand by and let Sky be shamed,” Rowen replied quietly.

“But over the years, it seemed like you and Ivy were growing closer. I thought you’d moved on.”

After a moment, someone suggested, “Alpha, why not consider it? Having both as mates wouldn’t be so bad, would it?”

Rowen was silent for a while before finally murmuring, “You don’t understand. If Sky’s family hadn’t fallen from grace, she’d still be the heir of a noble Beta. I can’t reduce her to a secondary mate.”

I froze, my foot accidentally nudging a potted plant, causing a soft clatter.

Rowen glanced toward the door, and I quickly stepped out of sight.

The conversation resumed inside. “I’ve made up my mind to protect her, and I won’t let her suffer any indignities. As for Ivy… she’d never accept being demoted. It would be an insult to her.” Someone sighed, and the room fell into an uneasy silence.

I paused, a bitter thought crossing my mind. *But you never asked me.*

You never asked if I could adapt to a life outside this pack, leaving behind everything I’ve built over the years. You never asked how I’d face the judgmental stares of others alone. And you certainly never asked how I’d mend the pieces of my shattered heart.

You just assumed I’d understand, that I’d accept it all without a word.

I let out a self-deprecating laugh and turned to leave when another voice chimed in.

“If you’ve decided, you should act quickly. Sky’s a proud one. If Ivy makes a scene, she might refuse to mark you.”

“I’ll talk to her,” Rowen said, his tone firm and resolute.

In that moment, all the years of affection between us felt like a cruel joke.

After the guests left, Rowen came to find me. He watched as I packed my belongings, and though I tried to ignore it, the numbness in my chest began to ache.

When I finally finished packing and gathered my emotions, he suddenly told me there was no rush.

It seemed men were just as contradictory as women. *No* meant *yes*, and *yes* meant *no.*

And yet, I understood him perfectly. Lennox escorted me to the outskirts, and I instructed him to take the car back, leaving me with just a motorcycle.

I didn’t return to my hometown. Instead, I headed toward the borderlands.

With a twist of the throttle, I urged the bike forward. As it roared, I glanced back at the fading outline of the city.

Rowen, the ties that once bound us were like the scent of the city and the wild freedom of the borderlands—utterly incompatible from the start.

You keep your dreams of the past, and I’ll forge my path into the unknown.

This is where we part ways, with no debts left between us.

(End of Ivy’s perspective)
