When the Alpha Chose His Pack Over His Mate Chapter 05

When the Alpha Chose His Pack Over His Mate Chapter 05

I could stand here because my scent resembled hers.

I lowered my gaze, silent.

Sky suddenly stepped forward and whispered something into the Beta’s ear.

In the end, Sky was selected.

I went through the motions, but I couldn’t repay Rowen’s kindness.

When he realized it wasn’t me who was taken to the Lycan King’s palace, Rowen’s voice choked with emotion.

I forced a smile. “I’m sorry. I couldn’t take Sky’s place.”

He sighed. “It’s fine. You tried.”

I saw the disappointment in his eyes.

It was as if the current of fate had swept away all his hopes.

After Sky entered the palace, she was granted the title of Lycan Princess.

Rowen fell into despair, drowning himself in alcohol every day.

I did everything I could to see Sky once.

I said, “The heir of the Northern Pack is still a hostage in the Southern Pack. You have two years before you leave for the North.” In that time, can you arrange for me to go in your place?”

I didn’t get to say that Rowen needed her.

She slapped me hard across the face. “You’re just jealous of my title, aren’t you? Get out of here!”

“Don’t let me see your face again. It’s disgusting!”

The gap in our status kept me from retaliating.

I could only stay quietly by Rowen’s side.

Watching him drink himself into a stupor, letting him vent his frustrations.

When he passed out in the corner of the bar, I would struggle to lift his muscular frame onto my back and carry him home, step by painful step.

When he sobered up slightly, I would gently encourage him to pull himself together.

He told me to leave,

so I stopped speaking.

I sat by the soft glow of the fireplace, quietly mending his clothes.

Every stitch carried my hopes for him.

It was repayment for his kindness, but also because I truly cared for him.

Now, though, I can’t remember how deeply I loved him. I just think, he wasn’t that special after all.

“Let’s go,” I told the Delta driving the car.

“Wait!”

Rowen reached out as if to grab something, then froze mid-air.

His voice was awkward when he spoke:

“She sent a letter earlier, saying she doesn’t want to see you. If you return to the city, you can stay with Beta Hoffman. Don’t show up unannounced…”

A cold wave washed over me, but I took a quiet breath.

I nodded in agreement.

The car finally started moving.

The Delta glanced back a few times.

He told me the Alpha was still standing there.

I had no desire to speak, only saying, “Watch the road.”

As the car swayed, my mind drifted back to what had happened two hours earlier.

Originally, I hadn’t been in such a hurry to leave.
