When My Wolf Went Silent Chapter 07

When My Wolf Went Silent Chapter 07

Archer’s POV

I don’t know why, but every time I think of Harper’s last look

at me, my chest tightens like something is squeezing it, and

my wolf whines in pain

There was so much emotion in her eyes

Love

Pain

Even a kind ofhopeless farewell

That look unsettled my wolf, stirred panic deep in my chest

Even later, when the pack doctor told me Simone’s baby was

fine, I didn’t feel a spark of relief. I just sat outside the room, haunted by the image of Harper looking at me before she fell

It pressed down on me so hard I could barely breathe

After Simone finally fell asleep, I couldn’t hold back

I called Harper

Simone and Iwe were never supposed to happen. She had

been a junior at the elite academy while I was abroad. She

chased me for six years

Then that night, the sixth year, she got me drunk, mimicked

Harper’s voice, her scent, her presence. I lost control. Wewe

crossed the line

Afterward, I learned the truth

Even so, I whispered apologies to Simone, made it clear

didn’t like her, couldn’t like her

Even though Harper had long ago betrayed me, rejected me, erased herself from my world, my heart would only ever belong to Harper

Werewolves only have one mate, and mine would always be

her

That night, Simone cried as I rejected her. She never gave up, never stopped chasing me

Until six months later, a letter arrived from my mother

Harper’s Marking Ceremony invitation

She was going to seal the mate bondwith someone else

Marry the man she’d betrayed me for, the beta’s son

I spent that night alone in my dorm, drinking until my stomach bled, until the hospital took me away. Simone cared

for me then

Maybe I was too pathetic, maybe I finally realized Harper truly

didn’t want me

So I softened. I agreed to be with Simone

Then she became pregnant

When she begged me to seal the mate bond, my chest hurt so

badly my wolf almost rejected it

But in the end, I still agreed

I even went back to the pack with her to prepare for the

ceremony

But todayafter seeing Harper, my wolf couldn’t settle

That final look from herit ignited a wildfire in me I couldn’t

control

I called her more than ten times

Not one answered

In the end, I called her mother

The moment the line connected, her voice, trembling with

anger and grief, cut through me

What do you want?”

I choked on my words, silence stretching a few seconds before

I forced it out

Harperis she okay today?”

A pause. Then her cold, sharp reply

She’s fine. You don’t need to call again.”

The line clicked dead

The dial tone buzzed coldly in my ear. My chest constricted

with that same helpless panic

I called my mother next

She immediately went off

Archer, how could you push Harper? You know her mom

raised her like a treasure! I spent an hour in the hospital calming her down today. I am her Luna! How dare she treat me this way!”

Hearing hospital,a weight lifted slightly from my chest. She wasn’t seriously hurt

I tried to sound calm. Was she badly hurt?”

No. Just a small scrape on her forehead, already bandaged.”

She’s with her fiancé now. They should be heading to his pack, to their marital home, where they’ll stay.”

Marital home

The words clawed at my chest like wolf claws, sharp, aching

numbing

After a few more words, I hung up

Everything sped up after that. My mother advanced the timing of my and Simone’s Marking Ceremony, even rushing us to sign the bondsealing deal

I thought about resisting

But every time I passed Harper’s house, staring at that closed door, I felt the same suffocating despair wash over me

What could I even fight for

From start to finish, the one who didn’t want mehad always

been Harper.
