The Pack Healer hesitated

Before he could say anything, Kael cut him off impatiently.

“So what if you just gave birth? Last time you were gravely injured, Aurora gave you hers without hesitation!”

“You won’t die from donating a little blood! But without it-Aurora will really die!”

Floating above them, I frowned in confusion.

“I’m already dead. Why are they still healing me?”

[You are dead. But because their emergency treatment began immediately after your departure, your body can still hold on a little longer.]

[That is why your soul has not yet completely left this world.]

I finally understood.

Kael ignored Selene’s refusal and pushed her into the blood collection chamber.

He stood there for a moment, then called his Moon Guard Commander.

“Go to Moonlight Bakery in the western district and get Moonflower Strawberry Cakes. Bring them to the

Moon Healer Sanctuary.”

When he hung up, he murmured to himself,

“She loves these. When she wakes up, she’ll be happy to see them.”

I floated above, listening-and found it absurd.

I did love the Moonflower Strawberry Cakes. He used to buy them for me every day.

At some point, he stopped. He started buying the Moonflower Mango Cakes from another bakery on the eastern side of the territory.

Those were Selene’s favorite.

I hadn’t eaten the strawberry ones in a long time.

Yet he still believed I was the same Aurora from years ago.

The Aurora who would smile over the smallest gesture.

The Aurora who treasured every bit of affection he offered.

But this time was different.

I was already dead.

Before long, Selene and I were both moved into the recovery dens.

I smiled bitterly.

Looking at the heartbeat crystal beside my bed, I realized why Kael refused to give up.

It still emitted a faint glow, its weak pulse flickering, making it seem as though I were merely unconscious.

Without sparing Selene a single glance, Kael remained beside my bed the entire time.

He picked up a clean handkerchief, carefully wiping the dried blood from my face.

His fingers trembled so violently that they betrayed the calm expression he desperately tried to maintain.

Suddenly, his movements stopped.

His thumb slowly brushed across the faint scar above my eyebrow.

Years ago, when I had rescued him from the traitor, he had slashed me across the brow with a silver dagger.

Fortunately, the wound had narrowly missed my eye.

Only a small scar remained.

He rubbed the scar over and over, lost in thought.

Then a drop of water landed on my face. Then another.

Kael tried to wipe them away frantically.

That’s when I realized-he was crying.

The tears kept coming, and he couldn’t stop them.

Finally, he gave up and collapsed onto me, sobbing.

After a long time, he calmed down.

He seemed to remember something-and proudly held up the Moonflower Strawberry Cake the Guard Commander had brought.

“Look. I got your favorite cake. You haven’t had it in so long.”

But I lay motionless. I couldn’t answer him.

He carefully placed the cake beside my bed, took my hand in both of his, pressed his face against my palm, and rubbed gently.

“Aurora, I’m sorry. I can’t live without you. Please wake up.”

“I’ve already chosen the most peaceful resting place for our little cub. When you wake up, we’ll go visit her together.”
