When Love Burned to Nothing Chapter 09

When Love Burned to Nothing Chapter 09

I stood beside him, watching the dead look in his eyes, and let out a quiet sigh.

“Ken, why go this far?”

The kids were still young. No one had ever taught them right from wrong. If you really thought about it, it wasn’t entirely their fault.

Looking back on my own life, I realized that maybe I hadn’t been a very good mother either.

While I was lost in those thoughts, Carly woke up.

The moment she saw what Ken was doing, fear flooded her face, and she screamed. The tape over her mouth swallowed the

sound.

By then, Ken had already poured out all the oil.

He sat down beside Carly and peeled the tape off her mouth.

“Anything you want to say?” he asked.

Carly stared at him like he was a stranger and screamed at the top of her lungs.

“Mommy Bianca, save me! Please save me!”

Ken hadn’t expected that even now, his daughter still hadn’t realized her mistake. He stepped forward and kicked Carly hard.

“Stop yelling! Linette was your mom! Since you like Bianca so much, I’ll make sure she keeps you company.”

He stormed into the bathroom and dragged Bianca out.

Seeing the three girls tied up tightly, Bianca glared at Ken and screamed, “You’re insane! You’ve actually lost it! Are you really going to kill us all? Aren’t you afraid of going to prison?”

Ken burst out laughing. He crouched down and grabbed her chin.

“I never planned on living, anyway. I’m taking all of you with me to beg Linette for forgiveness!”

He pulled a box of matches from his pocket.

Bianca shook her head frantically.

“No. Ken, please! I’m begging you! Stop!”

Ken didn’t even look at her. He stared at the match in his hand and murmured, “Linette, I’m coming to find you. I hope you’ll forgive me now.”

Then, he dropped the match onto the floor.

The flames leapt up instantly, and I felt a faint warmth brush against me.

I rushed forward, trying desperately to stomp out the fire.

But I was already dead.

There was nothing I could do.

I watched in despair as my three daughters were dragged into death by Ken’s madness.

Ken sat quietly on the floor, staring at the photo of us on his phone.

The fire crept up their bodies. Pain twisted Bianca’s face, and the girls’ expressions were filled with agony.
Ken kept smiling the whole time.

The flames grew higher and higher. The three girls lost consciousness first. Soon, only Bianca and Ken were left awake.

Knowing she wouldn’t survive, Bianca glared at him with pure hatred.

“I hate you, Ken! I hate you!”

Ken was drenched in sweat. He looked at her coldly, his voice hoarse as he hissed, “This is your karma!”

Then, he closed his eyes.

Outside, someone spotted the thick smoke and shouted for help.

Fire trucks arrived quickly, firefighters rushing in fully geared up. However, the fire was too intense. They could only evacuate people nearby first.

By the time the flames were completely extinguished, five charred bodies remained inside the house.

Their injuries were far worse than mine.

I had died later from infection. They died in the fire itself.

I collapsed onto the blackened floor, covering my face as I broke down sobbing.

Then, a voice sounded softly beside me.

“Linette?”

I looked up.

It was Ken.

He had become a ghost, too.
