When He Said I Was The Replacement, I Said Finally Chapter 10

When He Said I Was The Replacement, I Said Finally Chapter 10

Yves thought I was wavering, and this was the first time he’d seen me look so bright and happy.

“Elena, have you finally come to your senses? You’ve actually been in love with me this whole time,

that’s why you…”

I didn’t bother wasting any more words on him.

“Yves, lying about the makeup wasn’t the only thing I hid from you. The truth is, I have never loved you. The reason I went through all that trouble to get close to you was because of a deal I made with

your mother.”

I finally told him the whole truth, holding nothing back.

The original agreement was only to keep it secret during the term of the contract. I’d originally planned to end things quietly and respectfully, but they wouldn’t leave me alone even after the

contract expired.

If this dragged on, it wouldn’t just annoy me-it would probably ruin my relationship with Cyrus.

Yves turned his head stiffly, as if he hadn’t understood, and asked softly, “What did you say?”

“I could have fallen in love with you, but think carefully, over the past year, how dismissive you were of me, and for all the things you said when we broke up, is there any single thing about you that’s actually worth my love?

“Yves, I’ve never been into that whole abusive substitute female lead trope.

“This might be some silly game you rich people love to play, but sorry-I really have no interest.

“And don’t get me wrong, I didn’t start dating a man who looks like you. Honestly, you’re the substitute for him. If you didn’t look so much like him, I wouldn’t even have taken this deal.”

With every word I said, Yves’ face grew paler. But my goal today was to cut the knot cleanly once and for all, to eliminate any future trouble.

“Yves, you used me as a substitute, and I did the same. We’re even.”

I sighed softly, my tone softening a little. “I’m begging you, just leave us alone. I really love him so

much.”

Of course Yves couldn’t calmly accept what I said. He flew into a rage, hurling insults at me.

“Elena, you’re a fraud! A big liar who plays with my feelings! Don’t think I actually love you that

much-you’re just a fake!

“You’re a scheming, vicious woman. You’d sell anything for money. I can’t believe I ever trusted

you!

“Go to hell with all that ill-gotten money of yours!”

I stood there silently and took all his abuse. When he finished, I only said softly, “Are you done yelling? If you are, I’ll be leaving now.”

I really didn’t owe him anything. There was no reason I should have put up with his outburst. After all, he saw me as a docile substitute, and I did it for the money. We both got what we wanted. Neither of us owed the other anything.

If anyone was to blame, he should blame his mother for coming to me in the first place.

Yves’

eyes

were bloodshot as he gritted out, “Get out. I never want to see you again.”

I’d swallow my pride for the sake of that one sentence.

Yves’ mother met with me again.

I thought she was going to try and convince me to accept her terms, and I was just about to tell her I’d already laid everything on the line with Yves.

But out of the blue, she brought up Cyrus.

I immediately tensed up, my guard up as I said, “Madam, this has nothing to do with Cyrus.”

“Don’t be nervous, I don’t mean any harm. What I’m trying to say is, your boyfriend might be my son that I lost many years ago.”

What?

Yves’ mother told me she gave birth to twins back then, but one of the boys was stolen and sold by her husband’s mistress.

“That woman thought I only had one son. She thought if my son was gone, Gary Stuart would divorce me. She never expected I had twins,” Yves’ mother said indignantly, her fists clenched tight.

“After the truth came out, I sent her to prison. Gary settled down after that, but we never found our

missing son.”

It took me a while to process what she was saying.

“But madam, how can you be sure Cyrus is your son?”

She looked away awkwardly. “I felt it the moment I saw him. After I got home, I had someone look up his information, looked through dozens of his photos and videos. He has a red birthmark under

his collarbone. I’d never mistake that.”

I fell silent.

I knew about that birthmark. I kissed it just last night.

It looks like a flower petal, so sexy. I loved it so much.

I’d read too many silly novels a while back, and when I heard this ridiculous drama unfold, I almost thought I’d stepped into some cheesy soap opera novel.

But this wasn’t fiction.

Yves’ mother wanted me to help arrange a meeting between her and Cyrus, which meant the Stuart family wanted to take Cyrus back.

Rationally speaking, if Cyrus really was the Stuarts’ son, going back to the family would definitely be a good thing for him.

After all, the Stuart family had enormous power and influence, and they could give Cyrus so many opportunities.

Even now, when I thought about the hard, poor days he went through, and how the good job offer was stolen from him right out from under his nose, it still made me feel bad.

But if he really did go back to the family, wouldn’t the relationship between me, him, and Yves only get even more awkward?
