Underboss’s Ex, Mafia’s Queen Chapter 07

Vincent shoved her away and dropped onto the sagging couch. The worn couch springs squeaked loudly, digging into his back.

“I ran my ass off all day. Got two complaints, so they cut my pay in half. The rest went to this.” He nodded toward two large packs of ramen noodles on the counter.

“Half the pay? That’s all we’ve got? I’m pregnant, Vincent! I need vitamins and medical care – how are we supposed to get by on nothing?”

“My fault?!” He shot up, his eyes bloodshot. “You’re the one who wanted that ring! You tossed it in the river! You’re the one who attacked her! You made me a total laughingstock!”

“I lashed out at her because you were too busy fooling around with Lena! If you hadn’t strung Lena along, none of this would’ve happened! Sebastian wouldn’t have come after us! My mother got arrested because of you!”

“Your mother?” Vincent let out a sharp, bitter laugh. “At least she walked. What about you? All you’ve brought me is bad luck. You and your thief of a mother deserve each other.”

“Don’t you dare speak ill of my mother!” Giselle shrieked. “Did I ask for any of this? Stuck in a crummy basement with a deadbeat? This is all your doing!”

“My fault? You wanted the spotlight! You wanted to humiliate her!”

“We all thought forcing her to lick the floor was a big joke. Well, look where we ended up!”

“You’re absolutely repulsive,” she spat. “Ugly and broke. You think Lena would ever look at you? She’s marrying a Don, and you’re just trash.”

“Better than you,” Vincent hissed. “At least I don’t put on airs as some high-society lady when everyone knows you’re nothing but an illegitimate kid.”

Giselle lunged at him.

They crashed into the wall. The cheap mirror over the sink shattered, and the room erupted in

shouts and foul language.

Across the city, St. Patrick’s Cathedral glittered under crystal chandeliers.

My gown brushed softly down the aisle, silk and lace flowing in quiet stillness. My father walked beside me, his hand steady over mine.

At the far end of the nave, Sebastian waited. Black tuxedo, white boutonniere, standing tall.

I placed my hand in his. The weight of it steadied me.

The priest spoke of vows, honor, and forever. When Sebastian slid the diamond ring onto my finger, the metal still held the warmth of his palm. He leaned down and kissed me,

slow and deep.

Waves of applause echoed all the way up to the towering arched ceilings.

Sunlight poured through the stained glass, gilding the marble in gold.

All the suffering was just the prologue.

The real story was only beginning.
