Two Years of Marriage, I Never Got My Wedding Ring Chapter 20

I closed the video and sat at my desk for a long time without moving.

My assistant came in with a stack of documents and stopped when she saw my face.

“Verona, are you okay?”

I shook my head.

“I’m fine.”

The intercom on my desk buzzed.

The receptionist’s voice came through. “Verona, there’s a Mr. Ricci downstairs for you.”

I looked up, past the glass walls of my office.

Alessio was standing there in a perfectly tailored suit, holding a file.

He didn’t come straight in.

It seemed he had finally learned to wait.

I pressed the button on the intercom.

“Let him in.”

Alessio entered my office and placed the file on my desk.

“You saw the video?”

“I did.”

He was silent for a moment.

“Verona, I’m sorry.”

I opened the file.

Inside was a timeline of all the evidence from the wedding day.

The jewelry store pickup record.

The photo of Sofia signing for the ring.

The invoice for the replica.

The security camera IDs for the deleted footage.

The original timestamp of the Instagram post.

Page by page, the whole ugly affair was laid bare, as if our wedding had been put on a dissection table.

When I finished, I closed the file.

“And?”

Alessio looked at me.

“I’m going to Sofia’s house tonight.”

I nodded.

“Good luck.”

He seemed taken aback by my response.

“You’re not coming?”
