Then she looked up, her eyes scanning something off-camera.

She took the ring from the black box and slipped it into the dark blue one.

Then she took another ring from the dark blue box and placed it in the black one.

I stared at the screen, motionless.

Behind me, I could hear Alessio’s breathing grow heavy.

In the next shot, Sofia was crouched in front of Alessio, whispering something to him.

He didn’t seem to hear her.

He just lifted his hand, and she slipped the real wedding ring onto her own finger.

Alessio didn’t even look.

He was just leaning against the sofa, so drunk he could barely keep his eyes open.
