Two Weddings, One Wedlock Chapter 06

Two Weddings, One Wedlock Chapter 06 The Divorce Papers.

I didn’t see this coming at all.

The second I finished speaking, Oliver’s face turned stormy.

He even told the driver to pull over halfway, called a separate ride for Sofia, and sent her away.

No matter how she whined or begged, he ignored her completely.

When we got home, he slammed the door shut and said in a rough, hoarse voice,

“Mia, I want to drink something to sober up.”

I yawned, exhausted. “It’s in the kitchen. Make it yourself.”

“No. I want you to make it for me.”

Oliver stared at me intensely, his gaze complicated, like he was searching for some kind of reaction.

I used to make him a hangover drink all the time.

He’d built his company from nothing, and there were always endless dinners and drinks.

I’d carefully made him nourishing meals countless times.

But just a week earlier, I’d stopped by his office unexpectedly.

And I caught him gently feeding Sofia the chicken soup I’d made from scratch.

Unsurprisingly, we’d fought again.

Once, I’d cared so much about his health that I did everything for him.

But now…

He was about to be my ex-husband. Why bother?

Let the person who’s supposed to care for him do it.

I waved him off. “I’m tired. I’m going to bed. You have hands, don’t you?”

I didn’t even bother looking at his furious, shifting expression. I just turned and walked into the

guest room.

The roar behind me?

I didn’t hear it.

Sleep was more important.

I thought after the fight over the hangover drink, Oliver would pull away – just like he always did during our silent treatment, punishing me with silence.

But this time was different.

Oliver acted like a completely new person. He suddenly became clingy.

He picked me up and dropped me off from work every single day, and even started updating me on his schedule.

He talked to Sofia way less, and even started cooking for me.

He sent me flowers for no reason, and my coworkers all teased me about having a “perfect husband.”

One day, Oliver even brought up the wedding.

“We’ve been married for so long. We should finally have the ceremony.”

“I already hired a wedding planner. Whatever you want, I’ll get it for you.”

But when I looked into his earnest eyes, all I felt was irritation.

All I felt was pressure.

He was going to be my ex. There was no point in getting close.

But Oliver didn’t seem to understand. Even after I turned down his advances again and again, he kept sticking to me.

“It’s about time for your hospital follow-up, isn’t it? I’ll go with you.”

I was finally fed up. And by then, I’d already found my new apartment.

So on a bright, sunny afternoon, I handed him the divorce papers I’d prepared.

“Sign this, and we’ll finish the process.”

–

Oliver had been smiling the whole time – until he saw the word DIVORCE written clearly across the top.

His face went completely still.

To my shock, Oliver refused to sign.

His eyes were red-rimmed, he tore the papers to pieces right in front of me.

“Mia, are you kidding me? Is divorce something you can just throw around like that!”

“I won’t agree to this!”

I watched the scraps flutter to the floor and sighed.

It didn’t matter. I had plenty of copies.

“Why not?” I asked, genuinely confused.

“There’s nothing left between us. Dragging this out just wastes both of our time.”

“We’re adults. Would it kill you just to be straightforward and move on already?”

“NO!” Oliver snapped, glaring at me.

“What the hell? Why are you suddenly pushing for a divorce out of nowhere? Everything was fine!”

“Sofia? Is it because of Sofia?”

His expression faltered, then he frowned hard.

“I already told you – Nothing happened between me and her! We’re totally above board.”

“I was just doing her a favor as a friend. I never crossed the line, not even once.”

“Is that really what you think of me? That I’d cheat and sleep around?”

No.

I knew, from start to finish, that Oliver hadn’t cheated.
