Twenty-Four Hours Later, My Betraying Alpha Crumbles Chapter 09

I was typing up a log of today’s events in my notes app.

“Transferred to South Campus today. Nice environment.”

“Met Kaleib, the pack healer. He told me he would walk me through correct weight-bearing form

starting the next day.”

“Must remember to thank him.”

I had just typed the last word when a shadow fell over me.

I looked up.

It was the boy with the rimless glasses again.

He had run here in a hurry, his chest heaving. His naturally cool pale skin burned with an unnatural flush from sprinting, the perfectly groomed bangs over his forehead fallen disheveled. His Alpha musk pheromones spiked erratically, surging wildly just like a feral Lycan stripped of

self-restraint.

He stared at me, and his eyes were actually red-rimmed.

“Savannah.” His voice was hoarse, trembling slightly.

Gone was the commanding tone from before. In its place was something desperate, almost

pleading.

“I’m sorry.”

“I had no right to burn the diary where you stored every precious memory of us, and every cruel, reckless word I spat at you back then was unforgivable.”

“You used to love me more than anything. Don’t you remember?”

He stepped forward, reaching for my hand.

I pulled back, avoiding his touch.

Kaleib stepped in front of me immediately.

“Listen, I have no interest in whatever past bond the two of you share.” Kaleib’s voice was cold. “Savannah requires undisturbed calm for her rehab process, so I ask you to show basic respect and

step back.”

Gavin ignored him.

He looked past Kaleib’s shoulder, his eyes locked on me. His eyes, always veiled behind a distant, hazy glaze before, were now overflowing with raw despair and blind panic.

“Savannah, look at me.”

“I’m Gavin.”

“You once told me I meant everything to you, that you’d stick by my side no matter what happened

forevermore.”

I watched him fall apart, and I felt nothing-no heartbreak, no regret, no longing.

It was like watching a play that had nothing to do with me.

My memo said I would forget everything today. I would forget one person.

It also said that from now on, I should love myself.

So forgetting him was exactly what I needed to do.

I stood up and looked calmly at his desperate, twisted face.

“Mr. Reed, if my mind holds no recollection of you whatsoever, that only means the version of myself from long ago already reached a final decision.”

“She chose to stop loving you. She chose to forget you.”

“And I choose to respect that decision.”

The words from my memo-“love yourself”-echoed in my mind.

That was my promise to myself.

I lifted my chin and met his pale, stricken face, speaking slowly and clearly.

“So I, Savannah Miller, have made my choice.”

“I would appreciate it if you’d refrain from seeking me out and disturbing my peace moving

forward.”

I turned to Kaleib. “Kaleib, if you’re ready, let’s head back toward the dormitory hall.”

He nodded and walked with me toward the dorm.

Gavin didn’t follow.

He stood rigid as a Lycan statue drained of every ounce of his wolf fire and Alpha spirit.

I didn’t look back.

I put my phone in my pocket, my fingertips brushed slowly back and forth across the glass screen.

There was no trace of his name in my notes anymore.

When the next day rolled around, he would hold no place in my life at all.
