Too Late to be My Dads Chapter 04

Too Late to be My Dads Chapter 04

Just when I thought I was a second away from seeing Kylee, the System emerged and said there was a

slight technical error. I may have to wait a bit before reuniting with her.

I nodded.

Kylee and I had been apart all these years, so a few more days would not matter.

In the form of a soul, I lingered to observe Ethan, Lee, Ryker, and Tony.

As the reality that I was no longer breathing sank in, Ethan’s legs gave out, and he slumped to the floor.

He gave me a nudge, his voice trembling. “Stop playing games, Niamh. Wake up.”

His behavior caught the attention of the rest.

As the doctor, Lee jumped straight in and pressed two fingers firmly against my artery to check for a

pulse.

His face turned ashen.

“Quick! Call an ambulance now!”

While the others were still in a daze, Lee ripped my clothes open and started chest compressions.

Ryker was stunned.

“How did this happen? I bet she’s just playing dead.”

Tony was the only one still thinking straight, though only just.

With a grimace, he took out his phone and dialed the emergency line.

Soon enough, the sirens of the ambulance blared across the sky.

Once I reached the hospital, several highly respected medical practitioners were called to assist.

Despite three hours of emergency care, the EKG screen still showed a flatline.

Everybody had given up at this point.

The only exception was Lee, who carried on applying CPR.

“Niamh, you can’t die!

“You still have not made up for what you have done. How dare you leave!

“Don’t make me drag you back to the cage!”

His voice reeked of desperation.

Not one person came up to stop him.

It wasn’t until the chief of medicine had had enough and grabbed his shoulder. “It’s over, Dr. Davies.”

“Leave me alone!” Lee pushed the chief away. “Since none of you are trying, I’ll save her. She’s not going to die. She didn’t succeed before. She’s certainly not going to win this time either.‘

Lee frantically pumped away at my chest.

“Lee!” The chief of medicine lost his patience. “Just let her go. It’s been three hours. You’ve broken her

ribs. Even if she survived this, the pain would be too much for her to bear.”

At last, Lee released his hands from my chest.

He stared at my body.

My face was deathly pale, my lips tinged blue. Cuts and bruises covered my body, and blood soaked

through my clothes.

My chest had sunken in.

It hit Lee that he hadn’t taken a good look at me for far too long.

The little girl with soft, chubby cheeks he used to hold in his arms had somehow been reduced to skin

and bones.

With grief consuming him as a whole, he crumpled over and sobbed hysterically, his arms over his head.

Not knowing what to say, the other doctors simply gave him a pat on the shoulder and left the room.

The staff emptied out the emergency room.

Minutes later, the doors were flung open.

Ethan, Ryker, and Tony burst into the emergency room frantically.

Tony broke the silence. “Lee, how is Niamh?”

Lee didn’t utter a word.

However, the eyes of the three men fell on my body, under a white sheet, on the gurney.

At that point, no words needed to be said.

Ethan went up and grabbed the sheet. Before the cover was lifted off my face, he backed away and punched Ryker square in the face.

“It’s all your fault!”

“You hired those people to break her! You killed her!”

Ethan was hysterical.

Ryker broke down as well. “Was it my fault, though? Didn’t you talk about giving her a proper send–off?”

The pair quickly tumbled into a fight.

It was clear to the onlookers that Ethan and Ryker weren’t out to get each other.

The fight was just a way to let out their frustration.

Once both men were pulled apart, Tony criticized, “That’s enough, you two. If you want to point the finger,

all of us are guilty. Still, Niamh brought this upon herself. If she hadn’t been behind the incident, we wouldn’t have misread the situation entirely.”

Despite pulling an agonized look, Lee echoed the same sentiment. “Tony is right. This is entirely Niamh’s

doing. Maybe she died to make us suffer. Don’t fall for it. It’s Sadie’s eighteenth birthday today. We should

celebrate her milestone.”

They regained their composure at the mention of Sadie.

Probably since the four men had not made their way home, Sadie gave a call to Ethan.

Ethan heard wailing the moment the call was connected.

“Dad Ethan, N–Niamh beat me up again.”
