Three Chances for the Amnesiac Don Chapter 05

Three Chances for the Amnesiac Don Chapter 05

## Phineas’s POV

I ended the call, and a deafening explosion tore through the night outside the window, the shockwave trembling the floor under my feet.

I stumbled backward and spun around. Flames burst into view, thick smoke surging upward and staining the night a brutal blood red.

Leo’s warning that the car had lost control replayed on a loop inside my head.

“Cordelia?”

My breathing turned shallow and labored, and I tottered, struggling to stay on my feet.

The second I steadied myself, I dialled her number in a frantic rush.

The line failed to go through. I spun on my heel and sprinted for the exit.

“What’s wrong? Where are you going?”

Madre Lancaster appeared, blocking my path, her face twisted with displeasure.

“Seraphina is still recuperating and needs you by her side this instant. Where do you intend to go?”

“Surely you aren’t chasing after that ungrateful creature once more?”

“Cordelia might be in trouble. I have to find her.”

Cold sweat beaded and streamed down my forehead. I shook free of Mrs. Lancaster’s grasp, silent pleas racing through my mind.

Let this call be nothing but a hoax. Let Cordelia have fabricated the whole crisis to dodge blame for attacking Seraphina.

“Go after her? Are you insane?”

Madre Lancaster stepped in front of me. “It’s obvious. This is just another one of Cordelia’s stunts.”

She has pulled such tricks since childhood, weeping, staging tantrums, threatening to take her own life, all just a performance to wrap you around her finger.

“Seraphina just got out of danger. Don’t tell me you actually believe her?”

I froze mid-step. The shrill screech of tyres still reverberated in my ears, and a twisting dread gnawed relentlessly at my insides.

“No. I have to check.”

“And Madre Lancaster, Cordelia isn’t just my wife. She’s your daughter too!”

“What about me?”

I turned to find Seraphina standing by the window, her face ashen, her voice quivering through tears.

Cordelia is your legal wife, so where do I stand? What of our unborn child? “If you step out that door to find her, I will hurl myself from this window this very second—along with our baby.”

My urgency ebbed away at last, and my gaze drifted slowly toward Seraphina perched by the window ledge.

Ever since I lost my memory, everyone around me insisted Seraphina was my destined soulmate. Love of my life.

My father reproached me endlessly for getting tangled up with that calamity, Cordelia.

My brothers kept pressing me, demanding to know why I’d forgotten Seraphina and fixated on that unstable woman.

They showed me photos. Videos of me kissing Seraphina passionately right in front of Cordelia.

Every single person swore Seraphina and I were fated to be together. Even Cordelia’s birth mother insisted Seraphina was my one true love.

As for Cordelia and me? We were nothing but a distant relic of the past.

At first, I refused to believe a word of it. Deep down, I knew the truth. Cordelia and I had shared years of love. Marrying her had been my dearest wish on my twentieth birthday.

How could my true love be Seraphina? Impossible.

I defied every last one of them and wed Cordelia, going directly against my father’s explicit orders.

Cordelia doubted my memory loss from the very start, yet I chose to feign ignorance of all her trials.

I did everything in my power to repair the rift that had opened between us.

Until Seraphina sent me an ultrasound photo.

I had to admit they were right. I loved Seraphina.

And I betrayed Cordelia.

“But she is still my legal wife. Our divorce has not been finalised, has it?” I pressed a palm to my throbbing head and asked the two women in a hollow, numb tone.

Madre Lancaster let out a cold laugh.

“Didn’t Cordelia tell you? Today was the day you were supposed to withdraw the divorce petition. You didn’t show up.”

She glanced at my constantly vibrating phone.

“Your divorce filing will automatically take full effect in three days’ time.” “Tch. She is merely playing the wounded victim once more, hoping to drown you in guilt so you refuse to sign.”
