Three Chances for the Amnesiac Don Chapter 04

Cordelia’s pov

“Seraphina! Hold on, stay with me!” Phineas burst crashing through the doorway.

“Phineas, check the baby… save our baby!” She clung to his body, shaking violently.

He lifted her gently into his arms, his voice cracking. “Don’t be scared, I’m right here.I’m getting you straight into surgery immediately. The baby will pull through.”

As Seraphina was rushed into the operating room, a brutal slap landed hard across my cheek.

I lifted my head to see my mother’s features twisted into unbridled fury.

“Have you completely lost your senses?” She snatched a ceramic shard off the floor and drove it deep into my arm.

“Why do you keep attacking Seraphina? Can’t you bear to see me happy?”“If anything happens to her or that baby, I’ll never have a place in the Lancaster household!” she screeched.

“The Lancasters will destroy you and I will too.”

I felt no pain from the bleeding gash or my torn old injuries.

My gaze locked only on Phineas’s eyes. They held nothing for me—no remorse, no sympathy. Not even a flicker of the love he’d shown when he threw himself in front of me during the car crash.

Only cold indifference, bitter disappointment and naked revulsion.

“Cordelia.” His voice sounded alien, the same icy tone he reserved for dealing with traitors. “Two lives hang in the balance now.

Take your grievances out on me if you must, but if Seraphina or her child suffers any harm…I will never grant you forgiveness.”

It seemed the unwanted and unloved were always destined to carry all the blame.

I saw no point in offering an explanation. I only struggled to my feet, desperate to flee.

“How could I have given birth to such a cold-hearted monster?!” my mother shrieked.

“You murdered your own grandmother, and now you’ve set your sights on Seraphina?”

She dragged me backward by my hair, slamming my skull brutally against the floor over and over, without an ounce of mercy.

“Phineas! I command you to dispose of this disaster at once!”

“Send her far away, or Seraphina will meet a cursed end!”

“Otherwise I’ll lay everything bare to Don Lancaster—do you wish to bring ruin to the entire Wren family?”

Phineas’s outstretched hand froze halfway toward me.

Pained screams drifted out from the operating suite. He shut his eyes in weary surrender.

He pulled out his phone and called his right-hand man, Leo.

“Transport Cordelia to the Long Island private estate. Keep her confined there until I issue further orders.”

“But Madre Wren is bleeding, Don Wren. She’s covered in blood…” Leo hesitated, afraid to touch me.

Phineas had already spun on his heel and hurried toward the dim surgical corridor.

Leo roughly pushed me into the back seat of a black Rolls-Royce, and the vehicle peeled away from the hospital gates.

My blood seeped into the grey leather upholstery, yet I felt absolutely nothing, as if half my soul had already descended into the abyss.

Then the car jerked violently.

Leo frantically dialed the phone. “Don Wren! The brakes are out!”

“We’re in danger. Both of us.”

A weary sigh sounded down the line, followed by a handful of icy sentences.“Tell Cordelia to drop her petty tricks.Seraphina’s suffered severe trauma; I cannot leave her side.”

Every short phrase cut like a sharp knife, slicing clean through the final fragile thread binding us together.

The car crashed headlong into the roadside guardrail.

As my vision spun wildly, my mother’s voice crackled through the phone speaker.“I should’ve cast her aside long ago. She carries nothing but misfortune, just like that unwanted child she lost…”

Phineas ended the call without a moment’s hesitation.A sharp dial tone hummed endlessly in my ear.Blinding white light swallowed my sight, and all sound faded into nothingness.
