This Time, I Refuse to Be His Luna Chapter 09

Ethan stood where he was, his face drained of color.

He looked even worse than when he was sick.

I told him everything that had happened in the center.

“They made me watch the videos every day. The video of me lunging forward after I found out about you and Sophia, while you pushed me away and protected her. The video of you calling the group chat and asking them to judge me. The video of me smashing into the wall in a half-shift and tearing open my own neck. During the first week after I was sent in, I begged them every day to let me call you. They said as long as you answered, I would calm down. But you never answered once.”

After Ethan heard that, his body swayed.

“They did that to you every day?”

“What else did you think happened?”

I looked at him.

“Those were the things that made me lose control. Of course they wanted to numb me to them. They kept going until I could look at you, hear your name, and smell your scent without reacting. Only then did they say I passed.”

Ethan walked to me and dropped to one knee.

“I’m sorry. Olivia, I didn’t know.”

I looked down at him.

“Of course you didn’t know. For one year, you never came to see me.
How could you know?”

His mouth opened, but no words came out.

I gave him my final answer.

“Stop doing these meaningless things. Ethan, I’m begging you. Don’t make the ending uglier than it already is.”

After that day, Ethan no longer forced me to return to the estate.

He also stopped sleeping inside the cabin.

Instead, he set up a temporary shelter in the yard and helped me repair the fence, mend the chicken coop, and clear the drainage ditch.

He was an Alpha, the kind of man who could make lower-ranking wolves kneel with one careless word in the council hall.

Now he rolled up his sleeves, his hands covered in wood splinters and mud.

I did not soften.

I began fixing up the cabin my parents had left behind.

I cleared the backyard and planted moonroot, silverleaf, and several other herbs again.

I started taking simple treatment cases from the small town, and I also began organizing the herbal notes my parents had left.

At last, I had my own life.

I was not the future Luna in the Blackthorn estate.

I was not the fiancee Ethan kept beside him.

I was only Olivia Carter.

That evening, the sharp screech of brakes shattered the quiet of the yard.

A red car crashed into Ethan’s car parked at the gate.

Sophia rushed out.

She no longer looked as polished as she once had.

Her hair was messy. Her eyes were red and swollen. There were several deep marks where the necklace had once rested against her throat.

Those wounds had been left when the necklace was forcibly removed.

“Ethan!”

She threw herself in front of him and grabbed his collar.

“How could you do this to me? How could you destroy the Bennett family?”

Ethan raised a hand and pushed her away.

He did not shove her hard, but it was enough to send her into the mud.

“I warned you not to appear in front of Olivia again.”

Sophia pulled a crumpled report from her bag.

“I’m pregnant with your pup! Look at this! You don’t want me, and you don’t want your own child either?”

Ethan took out his phone and played a recording.

In the recording, Sophia laughed happily.

“So what if the pregnancy report is fake? Ethan is too busy right now to check carefully. As long as I send the report to the Council and leak it to a few rival Packs, he’ll have to come back and comfort me for Blackthorn’s reputation. As for Olivia? That woman with the unstable scent? He’ll get tired of her sooner or later.”

All color vanished from Sophia’s face.

Ethan put away his phone.

“Did you really think you could fool me a second time?”

Sophia sat in the mud, her lips trembling.

“You love her? How is that possible? You clearly said you liked my scent the most.”

Ethan did not look at her.

He walked to me and knelt on one knee.

“Olivia, don’t listen to her. You can punish me however you want. Just don’t leave me.”

Before I could speak, Sophia suddenly took a small perfume bottle from her bag.

The moment she twisted off the cap, I smelled a sharp metallic

stench.

Liquid silver.

The thing werewolves feared most.

She had actually brought it here inside a perfume bottle.

“Die!”

She screamed and lunged at me.

Ethan shoved me behind him and used his own back to block the silver.

The liquid silver splashed onto his back, and the fabric burned through at once.

He let out a muffled groan, and half his back turned black with scorched wounds.

Sophia tried to lunge again.

Ethan grabbed her wrist with one hand and tried to seize the bottle.

She fought wildly.

The bottle struck the edge of the stone steps, and the remaining silver splashed back onto the side of her face and her arm.

Her scream tore through the entire yard.

Ethan did not touch her again.

He only gritted his teeth and stood firm, then ordered the guards who rushed over.

“Take her to the Council. Charge her with attacking the Alpha’s mate.”

The guards quickly dragged Sophia away.

She screamed the whole way and begged Ethan to look at her once.

Ethan did not turn around.

He was no longer the little wolf who used to put hot dog slices into my bowl.

He was the Alpha of Blackthorn.

He had power.

And he had once used that power to hurt me.
