This Time, I Refuse to Be His Luna Chapter 02

A staff member from the center pushed open the door.

“The Alpha has completed your release paperwork. You may leave.”

I put the last piece of clothing into my suitcase and nodded.

Behind me, someone whispered, “She looks numb. Empty.”

Another person did not think there was anything worth pitying.

“What’s there to pity? Her fiance is the Alpha of the Blackthorn Pack. He’s rich, he’s young, and he’s still holding the Luna title for her. So he cheated. She could just pretend she didn’t smell it.”

One year ago, that sentence would have made me lose control.

Now, I only zipped up my suitcase and walked out.

Outside the door, Ethan was leaning against the car.

The rain-soaked air was filled with his cedar scent, and his Alpha dominance made several lower-ranking wolves at the entrance drop their eyes at once.

I walked up to him.

He raised his hand as if he wanted to touch my face.

“You’ve lost weight.”

I turned aside and avoided him.

His hand stopped in midair. His fingers slowly tightened, then he lowered it.

He opened the passenger door for me.

A woman’s lipstick was lying on the seat.

It was not my shade.

I did not touch it.

Ethan picked it up first, lowered the car window, and tossed it out casually.

“My assistant left it.”

I lowered my head, fastened my seat belt, and did not call him out.

That was Sophia’s favorite color.

The old me would have questioned him.

I would have argued.

I would have turned the whole ride tense and ugly.

Now, I only placed my hands on my knees and waited for the car to drive away.

At a red light, Ethan tapped the steering wheel.

“I’ve already sent Sophia out of the territory. She won’t affect your Luna title anymore.”

“Mm.”

He seemed unsatisfied with my reaction.

Then he added, “Your room has been kept clean. Your old blanket is still there.”

I said, “Thank you.”

Silence settled over the car.

He took a black velvet box from his pocket.

When he opened it, there was a moonstone necklace inside.

A strand of black wolf fur was sealed inside the pendant.

It was his Alpha wolf fur, carrying his cedar scent. It was an ancient mate-bonding token of the Blackthorn Pack.

He said, “I had it remade. Wear it at the mate-bonding ceremony.”

I did not take it.

I drew my fingers back into my sleeves and said calmly, “Cancel the mate-bonding ceremony.”

Ethan looked at me for several seconds.

Then he threw the box into my lap.

“I slept with Sophia. You went to my three brothers. Let’s call it even.”

Ethan said it so simply, as if the needles, the videos, the surveillance, and the pain of that entire year in the center were nothing more than a small fight.

“I’m still holding the Luna title for you. I promised you that.”

I lowered my eyes and looked at the box.

The moonstone gave off a silver glow inside the dim car.
