They Swapped Brides At The Wedding, I Swapped Grooms Chapter 05

Rowan couldn’t believe it. He grabbed the staffer by the collar, furious.

“You’re lying to me!”

The staffer trembled.

“Those were Ms. Pemberton’s exact words. I’m not lying.”

Lorinda gently pried Rowan’s hand off and comforted him.

“Calm down. Why don’t you just call her?”

Rowan fumbled for his phone.

No answer. Messages wouldn’t go through.

With no other option, he used a different number to text me.

[Don’t you want to get the license with me? Meet me at City Hall tomorrow. I’ll wait for you there.]

I’d just finished a whole wedding and was so exhausted I collapsed onto the chaise in the hotel room.

I stared blankly at the ceiling.

The door opened and Bryce came in.

He brought me a set of casual clothes and flat shoes.

“Change out of that gown first. This will be more comfortable.”

The gown was beautiful, sure, but it weighed a ton.

And it was killing me to wear it.

I took the clothes from him and glanced at his formal suit.

“Thanks. You should change too.”

“It’s fine. I want to stay in it a little longer.”

After resting, I carried the bag with the gown out of the hotel first and waited at the entrance for Bryce to pull the car around.

The moment I looked up, I saw Rowan and Lorinda rushing over.

They were still in their wedding attire.

When Rowan saw I was alone, he let out a breath of relief.

“Lillian, you went too far this time.”

I gave him a blank look.

He glared at the bag in my hand, his voice sharp.

“You blocked me on everything just to make me worry, to make me ditch Lorinda and come running after you. Happy now?”

I shot him a cold stare.

“Oh. And how is that my problem?”

Rowan frowned and kept going.

“It was just a veil. You couldn’t even bring it over? You were never like this before.”

Right. Every single time they toyed with me, I was the one forced to take it.

Lorinda stepped forward and snatched the bag from my hands.

The strap scraped my skin raw.

She rummaged through my gown and whined to Rowan.

“Rowan, Lillian didn’t send the veil or the jewelry at all. That box must have been fake. She said all that just to

mess with your head.”

I bent down to pick up the gown from the ground, which was meant to be returned to the boutique.

But Rowan stomped his foot right on it, crushing my hand underneath. The freshly scraped spot bled.

“Lillian! You’ve learned to lie now? If you didn’t want to bring it, just say so. No need for all this runaround.”

I bit back the pain and fixed him with an icy glare.

“Get your foot off.”

That was when he finally saw my swollen hand. He quickly pulled his foot away, looking like he wanted to

apologize.

I picked up the gown and stuffed it into the bag.

Then I yanked the veil right out of Lorinda’s grip.

“Ah!”

“Lorinda!”

Lorinda pretended to fall from the pull and hit the ground, staring up at me with teary eyes.

“Lillian, do you hate me that much?”

Rowan rushed to help her up, then looked at me with disappointment.

“I didn’t know you could be so cruel. What did Lorinda ever do to you to deserve this?”

He glanced at the bag I’d just packed, grabbed it, and threw it back on the ground.

“It’s just a cheap veil. Was that worth it? You’ve changed. You’ve become so petty. I barely recognize you.”

After a whole day on my feet, my legs were weak. The force of his tug sent me stumbling sideways.

I tried to steady myself but couldn’t.

Right as I was about to hit the ground, a man rushed over.

“You okay?”

Bryce’s voice was full of concern.

“I’m fine.”

Rowan hadn’t expected me to fall. His voice cracked with worry.

“Sorry. I didn’t know you’d fall.”

I let out a bitter laugh.

“There’s a lot you don’t know.”

After Steauyiny mie, piyuu nium

heel into Rowan’s hand.

“Sorry. I didn’t know I’d step on your hand.”

I signaled Bryce to ease up, then looked at the dirty gown on the ground with pity.

Bryce took my hand gently and led me away.

“If you still like it, we’ll go buy another one right now.”

Rowan watched my back and threw out a warning like a petulant child.

“If you leave with him, I’m getting the license with Lorinda tomorrow.”

Then he turned to Bryce.

“You’re my buddy, but you don’t have to keep up this act for my sake.”

Bryce glanced sideways with a contemptuous smirk.

“I’m not doing it for your sake.”

Rowan wanted to press further, but Lorinda tugged his arm, looking pitiful.

“Rowan, I twisted my ankle.”

He had no choice but to drop it and carry her into the car.

Early the next morning, Bryce and I got ready and headed to City Hall.

I asked him, “Got everything?”

He seemed unusually excited today.

“Don’t worry. I’ve had it ready for a long time.”

The license process was quick, which took less than half an hour.

I looked down at our marriage license.

After a few seconds, Bryce took it from me and tucked it into his pocket.

“I’ll keep it safe. Don’t want you losing it.”

We walked out of City Hall and immediately ran into Rowan.

I didn’t want to deal with him, so I tugged Bryce’s hand and tried to go around.

Rowan watched us exit the building. A bad feeling crept over him.
