They Said I Spent 80,000, I Had 800 Chapter 04

The living room fell into a heavy silence.

“What did you say?” Dad asked, looking completely stunned.

I sniffled.

“I said I only ever get eight hundred dollars a month. Kaysen said that’s all you gave him.”

“I work three jobs every day, and after buying my medication, I didn’t even have money left to eat.”

“Then I was hospitalized for stomach bleeding, and you blamed me, saying I was pretending to be

sick.”

Mom’s voice began to tremble.

“That’s impossible. We had Kaysen transfer eighty thousand to you every month!”

“But I only received eight hundred!”

I pulled out my phone, opened my chat history with Kaysen, and pulled the IOU notes out of my

pocket.

“See for yourselves!”

My parents froze. They pulled up their own text messages with Kaysen to show me.

Eighty thousand dollars transferred every month.

Along with Kaysen’s promises: [I transferred it all to Oaklee.]

Further down, it was all badmouthing me–saying I blew through money, that I was ungrateful, that I couldn’t be trusted with cash. Just page after page of them talking about how recklessly I

spent.

While on my end, his message was always the same: [That’s all I’ve got. Nothing more.]

No one spoke.

Mom’s face paled. “Then who has he been giving the money to?”

No one knew.

Dad picked up his phone and called his secretary.

“Get me Kaysen’s bank statements for the past six months right now!”

About twenty minutes later, a file arrived on Dad’s phone.

He glanced at it, his face turning dark with rage.

The bank statements showed money flowing to clubs and luxury boutiques.

Along with massive personal transfers labeled “Nikki,” “Baby,” and “Sweetie.”

The amounts ranged from ten thousand to over a hundred thousand dollars.

And in the column for me, a fixed eight hundred dollars every month.

Over three years, he’d pocketed nearly three million.

It finally clicked for my parents.

Mom burst into tears and threw her arms around me.

I stayed completely still.

She sobbed, repeating “I’m sorry.”

I looked down at her shoulder. My eyes stung, but I couldn’t bring myself to cry.

Dad called Kaysen. “You bastard! Where the hell are you now?”

“You only gave Oaklee eight hundred a month. Where did the rest of the money go?”

Kaysen paused, his voice visibly shaky. “I was saving it for Oaklee so she wouldn’t waste it. It’s all

in the account.”

“Where are you?”

Kaysen hesitated. “The Regent Tower.”

“Get your ass back here right now!”

Dad slammed the phone down, so furious he had to take two blood pressure pills.

Kaysen started spamming my phone with texts.

[Oaklee, are you at home?]

[What did you tell Mom and Dad?]

[Don’t say anything stupid–remember how good I’ve always been to you?]

My parents sat beside me, watching my phone vibrate non–stop.

They took it from me.

After reading the messages, their faces darkened even further.

Mom took my hand in hers.

I looked at her. “I thought you didn’t want me anymore.”

Tears streamed down Mom’s face again.

Over and over, she said, “Never. Never. How could we ever not want you?” *
