They Sacrificed My Marriage to Save My Brother Chapter 07 The Foote Family Went Bankrupt

As the police dragged Todd away, he kept screaming frantically, “My brother gave it to me willingly!”

I stood at the lab entrance, watching the flashing police lights paint the night in red and blue.

The system window popped up before my eyes: “Congratulations! Revenge progress: 30% completed!”

I let out a long, weary breath. The glass reflection revealed my pale, haggard face.

At five a.m., I returned to the hospital.

The nurse was reinserting my IV line when the ward door burst open violently.

Serenah stormed inside, her hair disheveled and her eyes swollen red from crying.

She lifted her hand to slap me, but two nurses immediately stepped forward and restrained her.

“Mom, if you lay a hand on me now, Todd’s trade secret theft conviction will be set in stone.” I stared at her, my voice ice-cold.

Her hand froze midair. She broke down sobbing, “You ungrateful bastard! Are you trying to destroy this family?! Kael collapsed from shock the second he heard the news! If Todd goes to prison, I’ll die too! Rainer-you’re killing your own brother! You’re cold-blooded!”

I let out a low laugh, my tone turning even colder. “Mom, this is the modern age. Don’t force me to sue you for slander as well.”

“You-! You-!” Serenah trembled with rage, too furious to form coherent words.

I added calmly, “Don’t forget, Todd has a system. Who was it that forced me to indulge him and Nyx last Wednesday night?”

Serenah’s face flushed scarlet, shame flashing across her features.

Right then, Nyx rushed in and dropped to her knees in front of me.

“Rainer, please—let Todd go! He won’t survive prison without me! I’ll sign the divorce papers right now! I’ll take nothing for myself-just spare him!”

I threw off the blanket, walked over to her, and bent down to grip her chin, forcing her to look

up at me.

Fear and desperate pleading swam in her eyes. It was almost touching-but I was no longer soft enough to fall for it.

“Are you trying to guilt-trip me? The divorce is inevitable, whether you sign it or not. Even if you refuse, I’ll hire the best lawyers in the country. I have no issue sending you to prison too.”

“Our family raised such a shameless monster!” Serenah wailed bitterly.

Nyx held her upright, her own eyes red and tearful as she whispered, “Rainer… nine years. Must it really end like this?”

I turned away without a single reply.

Silence was the only answer she needed.

Soon the room fell cold and empty once again. I sat alone on the hospital bed long into the night.

The next day, I headed to the Foote residence with the finalized divorce papers.

The front gate remained tightly shut, a clear sign they had no intention of welcoming me.

It did not matter. I had the system now.

The gate slid open automatically, and I walked straight toward the main hall.

My parents and Nyx sat inside, their faces rigid, furious, and full of hatred.

“Rainer! How dare you show your face here?!”

“Did you sabotage our family business?!”

I shook my head faintly.

“If it wasn’t you, then why is the company bankrupt?!”

“You’re wrong. The business failed not because of me, but because I was the one holding it up- and I’m gone.” I corrected them sharply.

“Todd’s in jail now! If you still have a shred of conscience, fix this mess!”

“Why should I?” I asked flatly.

“Because you’re a Foote! Because you’re family!”

I laughed coldly. “Dad, you’re growing senile. You’ve spent years insisting I was never your son.”
