They Regretted It After I Gave Up Chapter 07

He remembered how I had smiled at him before going into the operating room.

I’d said, “Beckett, after this, I’ll finally be free.”

He thought I was talking about my illness.

In reality, I was saying goodbye to the world.

When the operating room doors opened again, Mom rushed straight inside.

The moment she saw me, her legs gave out, and she collapsed.

“Katerina—”

She crawled to the operating table, wrapped her arms around my still body, and shook me desperately.

“Kat, open your eyes. Look at Mom. Kat, please, say something.”

Dad stood frozen in the doorway.

His lips moved, tears falling silently, but he couldn’t make a sound.

Mom suddenly turned her head and glared at Beckett.

It wasn’t grief in her eyes anymore.

It was pure hatred.

“It was you,” she stared at him. “You were the one who put those drugs by my daughter’s bed.”

“You made her take those shots, drink those things.”

“You drove her to this.”

Beckett opened his mouth, but no words came out.

Mom staggered to her feet, walked over to him, and slapped him hard across the face.

Then she slapped him again.
