On Columbus Day, Merritt brought Zane, Matteo, and Brennan up the mountain. They waited for Seraphina outside the retreat, planning to attend an autumn party together.

I don’t know who mentioned me, but the men suddenly said they wanted to see how I was doing.

Seraphina had someone quickly change me into clean clothes, comb my hair into a simple bun, and place me in a wheelchair. Several burly “caregivers” pushed me out.

Seeing me seemingly safe and sound, the men visibly

relaxed and turned to leave.

I used every ounce of my strength to open my mouth and

squeeze out two words.

“Save me…”

They all froze and looked back.

The color drained from Seraphina’s face.

Matteo was also stunned.

“The dose wasn’t strong enough?”

He patted his pocket, realizing he hadn’t brought a spare. He could only walk over and touch my head.

“Helena, Seraphina is helping you. Just stay here obediently.

I’ll bring you more medicine when I come back.”

Trembling, I raised my hand and grabbed his sleeve.

Seraphina walked up with a smile, separating us, and urged the men to hurry and push me back inside.

I couldn’t speak. In my panic, tears streamed down my face.

“Wait.”

Merritt raised a hand and slowly walked toward me. He wiped the tears from my face with his fingertips.

“Why are you crying? You’re lucky Seraphina is willing to

forgive you. Once you stop this nonsense about wanting to die, I’ll have them release you.”

After that, they prepared to leave again.

I yanked up my sleeve, exposing the dark bruises and angry

wounds on my arm.

The “caregivers” immediately blocked me, wrapping me tightly in a blanket.

Zane seemed to catch a glimpse of something. He whipped his head back, his eyes sharp.

With just that one glance, he called out.

“Wait. Why are there men here?”

Seraphina forced herself to remain calm.

“Zane, you must be mistaken. The caregivers here are all women. They just have sturdier builds.”

Zane was still suspicious, but he had always been
