They Loved Their White Moonlight, Till I Disappeared Forever Chapter 14

But Seraphina spoke first.

“Look. This is the ending a supporting character like you deserves. Don’t be so surprised. I’m a mission-runner, too, and I’m the designated heroine of this world. You’re just a side character. What right do you have to steal these men

from me?”

So that was it.

In that moment, I almost hoped she would just kill me.

I didn’t want to do the mission anymore. I just wanted to go home.

Seraphina seemed to read my mind. Her smile grew colder.

“You want to die? I won’t give you the satisfaction. After

your mission fails, you just have to stay here for one more

year. Then the body in your original world will never wake

up again. I can absorb your progress and finally complete

my own mission. Don’t blame me. The men in this world are

impossible. They all act like they’re dying for me, but not one

of them can reach absolute affection. It’s all because you’re

here. Once I steal your data, I’ll finally succeed.”

Every day at that place was torture.

There wasn’t a single patch of unbroken skin under my

clothes. But I was a prisoner in my own body, unable even to kill myself.

All I could do was plead with the System, again and again, to help me leave.

The System only repeated the rules. I had to end my own life

to detach from this world. There was nothing it could do.

I asked the System how Seraphina, another mission-runner, could do this to me without being punished.

The System’s answer was vague.

“In a mission world, as long as runners do not harm their own

target characters, they are free to eliminate each other. If

you had been killed before the mission was judged a failure, your original body would have died, too.”

So all I could do was endure.

Until one day, one of the men at the center, looking for a new

way to torment me, caught a type of poisonous beetle from the mountain and released it onto my body.

I knew medicine. I recognized it instantly.

The beetle’s venom was an antidote to the sedative Matteo

had given me.

The side effects would be severe, but it was my only chance.

I pretended to be terrified, lying still as the beetles crawled

over me.

After a sharp sting on my thigh, I felt the faintest twitch in my

fingers.

And just like that, little by little, I began to reclaim my body.
