They Died And Came Back To Destroy Me Again Chapter 07

At that time, I was overseas, handling my school enrollment.

My parents had set up a trust, so all the assets they left would be transferred to me once I got into college.

As soon as the money hit my account, I sent a payment to Caleb’s parents.

They had helped me so much over the years, and I owed them that.

Soon after, Mrs. Thornton called me on video, looking worried.

As we talked, we ended up on the subject of my parents. She had been my mother’s best friend, and she cried, her voice breaking.

I comforted her, and found myself tearing up too.

She asked where I was, saying she had connections there and was worried about me being alone. Did I want her to send someone?

I shook my head. “Mrs. Thornton, I’m doing fine here. If you’re worried, I’ll call you regularly to let you know I’m okay.”

She wiped her eyes. “And Caleb… he came to me, asking about you.”

Hearing his name, I looked down.

“He and I… we weren’t meant to be. I was just young and foolish.”

She understood, told me to take care, and hung up.

Because of my top SSEE score, my tuition was waived, and I got a generous scholarship.

I didn’t have to worry about money for school or living expenses.

Once I was settled, I found a rental near campus and went to see it.

The landlord was a middle-aged man. Seeing me alone, a foreigner, his expression turned strange and leering.

He quietly shut the door and showed me inside.

I was asking about utilities and maintenance when a rough hand suddenly grabbed my butt.

My heart seized, and the hairs on the back of my neck stood up. I pushed him away hard, disgusted.

“A young girl coming alone to see an apartment. Isn’t that an invitation? Don’t play innocent.”

The man didn’t back off. He just grinned, saying disgusting things.

Rage and revulsion surged, and without hesitating, I slapped him hard across the face.

“You’re disgusting. Get a grip.”

I turned and headed for the door, but it was locked.

I spun around to run the other way, but he grabbed my wrist, and I couldn’t move.

He leaned in, his breath foul, and my stomach turned.

Just then, someone rushed in.

He shoved the landlord away hard and stepped in front of me.
