They Destroyed Me, Then Begged Me to Come Back Chapter 08

“Josephine dying–that was you, one step at a time wasn’t it?”

The room went quiet.

“Framing her. Manipulating events to kill her indirectly. Do you have any idea what you’ve done?”

Bianca looked at Weston carefully.

“Are you… going to the police?”

Weston looked at the reddened corners of her eyes then shut his own in anguish.

“You’re Theo’s mother. You’re carrying our second child. How could I possibly turn you in?”

“Weston…” Bianca’s eyes filled with joy.

“But you can’t move in here.”

Weston opened his eyes.

The smile froze on Bianca’s face.

“Why?”

“The second I let you in, all I’ll be able to think about is Josephine.”

Weston looked up at their wedding photo on the wall, eyes red.

“Every time you’re here, it hurts.”

“So what you’re saying is I have to keep being your mistress?”

Bianca stared at him, disbelieving.

“I’m sorry…”

Weston let out a long breath.

Just go.

“Weston Sterling!”

Bianca started crying.

“You told me the second you found a way to divorce her, you’d bring me in. Now she’s dead, and you’re the one backing out!

“That’s enough!” Weston cut her off.

Bianca froze.

“If you’re done, go.”

“But Weston…”

“Bianca. The only thing I’m not giving you is the title. In every other way, you’re already my wife. Isn’t that enough for you?”

Bianca had nothing left to say.

She covered her mouth, grabbed her bag and stormed out.

The door shut behind her.

The wedding photo, huge, still hung on the wall.

Weston looked at it, back against the wall.

He slid down, slowly, to the floor.

The next day, a knock woke him up.

He opened the door.

Ruby and Mom stood there.

“We’re heartbroken about Josephine too.”

Mom sat down on the couch.

“But Weston, she’s not coming back.”

Weston lifted his eyes, barely.

Ruby chimed in.

‘Exactly. There’s no reason to keep making Bianca suffer for Josephine’s sake. She really does love

you. She wants a life with you.”

“Did Bianca send you here?”

Weston’s voice was cold

Ruby and Mom exchanged a glance. Mom spoke

“Even if she hadn’t asked, we would have come anyway. No matter how much we grieve, Josephine isn’t coming back. But Bianca-”

“She’s your DAUGHTER!!”

Weston’s voice rose sharply.

Ruby and Mom flinched.

He looked at them, his eyes bloodshot.

“Mom. Josephine was YOUR OWN DAUGHTER! Doesn’t that mean ANYTHING to you?!”

Mom looked away. Something complicated flickered across her face.

Ruby stepped forward quickly.

“Weston, don’t talk to Aunt Margaret like that. She’s only looking out for you.”

“Looking out for me?”

Weston laughed.

“Or looking to squeeze a little more out of me?”

Both women froze.

“You–one of you is my employee, hoping for a big enough bonus to buy a house in Meridian Bay outright.”

“The other one is my mother–in–law, hoping for enough money to buy her younger son a new car.”

“That’s what this is really about, isn’t it?”

They couldn’t meet his eyes.

“I used to think it was fine. But right now, all I feel is disgust.”

“She trusted you two more than anyone!”
