Mom’s knees buckled beneath her.

She went down before anyone could catch her.

Ruby’s hand flew to her mouth.

In the end, only Weston remained to sign.

“Isn’t there anything else you can do?”

He heard his own voice shake.

The nurse shook her head.

“It was too late. By the time you found her, she’d already been bleeding for two hours.”

Weston signed the paper with a trembling hand, the letters jagged and uneven.

“My condolences.”

The nurse left those words behind her and turned to go.

Every eye in the room landed on Bianca.

Her whole body was shaking.

“You don’t have to look at me like that.”

She spoke

I know exactly what I need to do.”

She ran to the window and threw it open.

“WHAT ARE YOU DOING!”

Let go of me! Let me die! I owe her that!”

Everyone lunged for the window at once.

Weston wrapped both arms around her waist, holding on for dear life

Ruby and Mom grabbed her arms

LET ME GOLowe her my life! I did this to her!”

Westor’s eyes went red

“If you die too, does that bring her back?”

Bianca sobbed, shaking.

“But… I owe all of you. You’re her family…”

Mom closed her eyes, pained.

“Come down from there. I don’t blame you.”

“Mom…”

“Come down. I know none of this is what you wanted. She would have forgiven you.”

Bianca’s sobs turned into gasping breaths.

Weston’s throat worked.

His voice came out low, hoarse, thick with grief he was fighting to hold in.

“I’ve already lost her once. Do you really need me to lose someone else too?”

“Weston…”

Ruby sighed.

“You really do feel bad about this. Come down. We don’t blame you.”

“YOU-”

Dr. Marsh stared at them, unable to believe what she was seeing.

“Dr. Marsh, thank you for showing us the truth.”

Mom gave her a small, sincere bow of the head.

“But we’d like this to end here.”

Dr. Marsh’s fists were shaking. The look in her eyes was pure disbelief.

Finally her fist came down on the desk.

She exhaled hard.

And they left

This time, Bianca could finally follow Weston home without any reservations.

“Bianca.”

Weston turned to her the moment they walked in.

“Unless I’m remembering wrong, you told me it was Josephine who fed our son the mango.”

Bianca stiffened.

“But by then, Josephine had already cut her wrists. How could she have fed him anything?”

“That’s-”

“Bianca Whitmore.”

Weston stared her down.

“You gave him the mango yourself. Didn’t you?”

“And even now, you’re not sorry, are you?”

Bianca suddenly dropped to her knees in front of him.

“I’m sorry, Weston. I admit it–I gave him a little bit of mango. Just a little!”

Weston looked down at her, expression unreadable

“But Weston, I did it because I was afraid you’d leave me!”

“You thought I’d leave you?”

Weston repeated it, numb.

“Yes, Weston.”

Bianca grabbed the hem of his pants.

“We have a whole life together outside of your marriage, but all these years, you still never actually

divorced her.”

“I was so afraid you’d change your mind one day. I don’t even have anything guaranteeing our future together!”

‘That’s why I had no choice…

Weston let out a bitter laugh and closed his eyes.

“Before that too, right? At the hospital. When she ‘pushed‘ you”

Bianca had nothing left to say.
