The surroundings went silent instantly.

The girls looked at me worriedly. The boys were waiting for a joke.

I slowly capped the lip balm before looking up at her.

“This is baby lip balm.”

I blinked, explaining very seriously.

“A princess’s skin is delicate; I can’t use adult products.”

“Besides, my lips are naturally red, unlike an old woman who needs to use lipstick.”

The air froze for a few seconds.

“Pfft—”

A boy in the back row couldn’t hold it in and burst out laughing, then quickly covered his face with a book.

Madeline Vance’s face instantly turned bright red as she demanded loudly, “Who are you calling that?!”

I tilted my head, looking completely innocent.

“I’m talking about whoever is an old woman.”

“You!” She pointed at my nose, trembling with rage. “Jewel St. Claire, you just wait!”

The bell rang for class.

Madeline Vance marched back to the podium in her high heels and slammed her textbook onto the desk.

“Jewel St. Claire, stand up and answer the question.”

I stood up.

She flipped to a random page and read an advanced math problem I had never even heard of.

Before I could even speak.

She gave a cold laugh and cut me off.

“Why aren’t you speaking?”

“Weren’t you quite the talker during the break? Are you a mute now?”

Her gaze scanned over me, but her words were directed at the entire class.

“Some students don’t have their minds on their studies at all.”

“All day long they focus on makeup and dressing up all flashy, talking back to teachers while pretending to be innocent and naive.”

“I’m going to teach you a lesson today: not everyone falls for your act!”

“People like you will face plenty of hardships once you’re out in the real world!”

She ranted for five minutes, spit flying everywhere.

I stood there and tilted my head.

The real world?

But my brothers said princess doesn’t have to go out and suffer in the real world at all.

They’ll take care of me for the rest of my life.

Seeing my indifferent attitude, Madeline Vance’s anger flared even more.

She slapped the desk, her voice sharp and shrill.

“What’s with that expression? Got a problem?”

“Go stand outside the classroom! You’re barred from this lesson!”

Some students whispered among themselves.

“Ms. Vance is targeting Jewel St. Claire too much…”

“We haven’t even learned that problem yet; it’s normal not to know it.”

“Shh, keep it down, she’ll start yelling again if she hears you.”

Madeline Vance heard them, and her gaze turned even colder.

“Who’s talking? Do you all want to go stand outside too?”

I didn’t move; I just looked at her.

She became desperate with rage.

“Do you not understand human speech? I told you to get out!”

Oh.

Get out.

I picked up my pink backpack and, under the shocked gazes of the entire class, slowly walked out of the classroom.

And then, I went straight home.
