They Called Me a Simp. The School Heartthrob Is My Brother Chapter 04

They Called Me a Simp. The School Heartthrob Is My Brother Chapter 04

“There will be a lot of alumni and parents on campus today.”

Eden shoved the flyers into my arms, “You hand these out yourself.”

“Consider it your apology to Nate.”

I threw them back, “No.”

She didn’t get angry, “Then don’t come to homecoming.”

She nodded at Evan.

The two of them grabbed my arms and dragged me into the backstage storage room.

Eden opened a room filled with old curtains and dusty prop boxes,

“Stay here until the event ends. That way you won’t run on stage playing victim.”

I was shoved inside.

The door slammed shut. A lock clicked from the outside.

I pounded on the door, “Eden! This is false imprisonment!”

Evan laughed coldly, “Don’t scare us. We’ll let you out when it’s over.”

I was about to curse when my nose started itching.

The room was thick with dust.

I’m severely allergic.

Within ten minutes, my eyes were swollen.

My chest started to tighten.

I pounded harder, “Open the door! I’m having an allergic reaction!”

Silence. Then Eden’s voice floated in,

“Stop acting. Nate’s not here. No one’s watching.”

Her heels clicked away.

The music from the auditorium started up.

The host announced that the competition team had finished.

They were on their way back.

I slid down against the door and sat on the floor.

Fine.

If they didn’t let me out, Nate’s first activity after coming back wouldn’t be hosting the event.

It would be picking up his only sister from the hospital.

I searched the storage room for ten minutes and found a rusty metal rod.

I didn’t manage to pick the lock, but I did manage to smash a hole in the floor.

I crouched by the hole, catching my breath, calculating the damages.

If the school asked me to pay for it, I’d send the bill to Eden.

If she refused, I’d send it to Nate with a note:

[Emotional damages caused by being your sister.]

Footsteps outside.

I pounded on the door again, “Anyone there? I can’t breathe!”

Evan’s voice, “Agree to apologize on stage and I’ll let you out.”

“Fine. Open the door.”

He wasn’t that easy to fool.

A phone slid under the door.

On the screen was a pre-written apology speech.

I picked up the phone, pressed record, and said,

“Hi, I’m Zoe. I’m currently locked in the prop room by Eden and Evan.”

“If I die today, please investigate this unstable male student outside.”

The phone was yanked away.

Evan kicked the door in frustration, “Stay there, then!”

I covered my mouth and nose and leaned against the wall.

After about fifteen minutes, a cleaning lady passed by with her cart.

She heard me banging, and finally found the key.

She saw my swollen eyes and gasped, “You need to go to the nurse!”

The school nurse gave me medicine and told me to rest for thirty minutes.

I would have listened.

But the opening music for the homecoming event was already playing.

My debit card and jersey were still with Eden.

My house keys were at the bottom of a pond.

But tonight, at the very least, everyone needed to know that those keys didn’t open a love story. They opened my front door.
