Their Four-Person Test, My Unopened Parachute Chapter 06

“Avery…”

Damian’s hand trembled as he reached for the fingers on the stretcher.

But just before he touched them, he stopped.

He bent over, fighting back a violent surge of nausea.

In the corner, Celeste’s face was ashen. She edged backward, trying to slip away in the chaos.

The lead detective snapped his folder shut and fixed a cold stare on her.

“Hold it. No one leaves.”

“The base manager has already confessed. Avery’s parachute was swapped. Her main canopy was replaced

with a twenty-kilo weighted training rig.”

“This wasn’t an accident. We’re investigating it as premeditated murder.”

“Premeditated murder?” Luca and Nico exchanged a look.

Nico fixed his eyes on Celeste and spoke slowly, “You’re the one who checked out the gear. You told us all

the safety checks were done.”

Tears flooded Celeste’s eyes.

“Nico, what are you saying?”

“I only wanted to help Avery get over her fear of heights. How could I swap her parachute?!”

“Damian! You have to believe me – I really don’t know how any of this happened!”

Sobbing, she threw herself at Damian’s side and grabbed at the hem of his coat.

In the past, all she’d ever had to do was shed one tear and Damian would step in front of her without

hesitation,

But this time, Damian didn’t even look at her.

He just knelt there, gripping the misshapen silver bracelet.

The detective sneered and raised his radio. “Bring him in.”

Two officers came in with Ryan Cole – the ground crew chief, drenched in cold sweat.

Sweat poured down his face. The moment he saw Celeste, his legs nearly gave out.

“Celeste, I’m sorry. I can’t take the fall for you anymore.”

“Officer, Celeste paid me five hundred thousand dollars to swap out the backup canopy in the Number Four

training rig.”

“The money came in two transfers through a shell company. She also made me wipe the equipment room records afterward and overwrite that day’s surveillance footage.”

“I have the transfer records and the chat logs!”

The lead detective took the tablet an officer handed him.

“We’ll verify everything you’ve said, one by one. The electronic records have already been secured.”

Celeste staggered backward and slammed into the couch behind her.

Damian slowly raised his head.

The grief in his eyes vanished in an instant, replaced by a chilling madness and murderous rage.

He rose to his feet, locked his eyes on Celeste, and asked, word by word, “You swapped the parachute?”
