After lunch that day, I went home alone.

After that, Damian started working late all the time.

Sometimes I could even smell a faint trace of perfume on him.

A few days later, Damian and I went back to his parents’ house.

I looked down. “Then go.”

He could tell I was upset, so he added, “When I’m done, I’ll take you shopping and out to dinner.”

“Okay.”

Damian reached out like he wanted to pat my hair, but his hand never landed. Then he hurried off.

Not long after Damian left, the test results came out. Five weeks pregnant.

Then I called my attorney.

I told him to protect my assets and start drafting the divorce papers. One thing at a time.

My attorney was fast. He told me he could have the paperwork ready in about three days.

Damian came home very late that night. I was fast asleep.

He stood by my bed for a long time, just watching me.

Then he gently tucked me in. Soon, the shower turned on.

Maybe because I was pregnant, I fell asleep fast. After that, I didn’t know what happened.
