The Unwanted Mrs. Whitmore Chapter 10

The Unwanted Mrs. Whitmore Chapter 10

After divorcing Lena, nothing felt real to Callum for a long time.

The person he had treated as a burden had truly left.

And somehow, he felt empty instead.

Every day, he went to work on time, left work on time, and went home.

Every time he opened the door, the cold, quiet room and the wilted flowers reminded him that Lena

was gone.

She had really chosen an ordinary man and moved abroad.

The scent in the air, the night-light left on by the door, and that steady, quiet life were all gone.

From then on, they would never see each other again.

Whenever Callum thought of that, it felt as if a piece of his chest had been carved out.

He remembered meeting Lena for the 1st time many years ago.

Evelyn had been holding her hand.

Lena hovered beside her, as if she might hide at any moment.

She was timid and thin.

Even when everyone told her she could ask for what she needed, she was still careful and afraid to speak.

After school started, he originally hadn’t wanted to bother with her.

But when he saw her walking into the classroom nervously, getting teased and laughed at, he still couldn’t help standing up for her.

As they spent day after day together, he saw the way Lena looked at him slowly change.

They had all grown up in this circle.

Callum understood exactly what it meant.

He felt a little proud.

Kovin

And a little happy.

Almost bragging, he told his friends about it.

Vivian only said 1 thing then.

“Isn’t it obvious? She’s after you.”

“You know how people with no background can be. They’re best at treating feelings like an

investment.”

Callum’s 1st instinct was to argue.

Lena wasn’t that kind of person.

But when the words reached his mouth, he held them back.

He decided to confirm it himself.

After high school graduation, he had originally wanted to ask Lena what she thought.

But by chance, he overheard Evelyn deciding that Lena would marry him in the future. Evelyn said, “Then let my grandson repay this kindness with marriage. You saved my life, so I’ll decide that you’ll marry him. From now on, you’ll be a Whitmore. We’ll build a good life together.”

Lena didn’t refuse.

She even hugged Evelyn happily.

Callum stood not far away and went cold all over.

So that was it.

Years later, Evelyn forced them into marriage.

After marriage, the days passed one by one, so flat and dull that he grew restless.

When he was hanging out with his friends, he heard that Vivian, who had been away for a long time, had returned.

She laughed at him and said his entire life had been arranged clearly by his family.

She was beautiful, polished, and effortless, sitting there in a red dress, so dazzling that people couldn’t look away.

At some point, Callum started feeling that Lena wasn’t good enough for him.

Later, they finally divorced.

Callum dated a few women afterward.

They were all beautiful.

But none of them made him feel at ease.

Some were too dramatic.

Some demanded too much.

When he was with them, he was always irritated.

When Evelyn heard about these things, she only laughed coldly.

“Since you were little, your grandfather said you were restless at heart and that you needed someone steady beside you. You didn’t believe it. So now you can figure it out yourself. I can’t manage you anymore.”

“Lena’s 2nd child has already been born, and her husband’s project just got Series B funding. And you’re still here, stumbling around like a fool, testing one wrong answer after another.”

“I’m packing my things and leaving the country. Lena is still recovering after giving birth. I’m going to see her.”

Evelyn left without looking back.

Only Callum remained on the sofa, head lowered, unable to say a word.

The wind outside was cold.

Boston in late fall carried a chill in the air.

Callum looked out the window.

Suddenly, he understood that in this life, he probably would never be able to make up for what he

had lost.
