The Twins She Kept Secret Chapter 05

The Twins She Kept Secret Chapter 05

Life in the new territory was not unbearable.

My best friend, Julian, was working here as a healer’s apprentice. He had just broken up with his mate, so the two of us got along perfectly, often drinking spiced cider by the fireplace.

But even when I drifted in and out of sleep, Silas still haunted my dreams.

If I ever forgot where I stood, it was his fault. He had been too good to me. So good that I forgot I was

only a kept omega.

The next day, I poured everything out to Julian.

Rule number one for a kept omega: never fall in love with an Alpha.

Julian shrugged. “Stop sulking. Look at your bank balance.”

That finally made me laugh.

A week later, Blackwood Pack gossip exploded again. Alpha Silas and the pack princess, Layla, attended her father’s birthday celebration together. Silas’s parents looked thrilled. Both families chatted warmly, as if they had been close for years.

Typical Silas.

Once he chose someone, he never bothered hiding it.

Fine.

Pure blood with pure blood.

A perfect match.

I swiped past the post and tapped “Not interested.”

That night, I did not sleep at all.

The morning sickness hit hard. I threw up everything I ate, and the healer’s tonics barely helped.

After I barely survived the first five months, she brought me another piece of news.

I was carrying twins.

I was stunned.

Julian patted my back while I threw up and joked, “Give me one.”

Not a chance.

Fine. Maybe he could be their godfather.

We were still laughing when we left the park.

Then I saw him.

Silas stood beside the gate, his eyes sunken, dark stubble covering his jaw.

He stared straight at me as if he could see through my soul.

“Do you have any idea how long I’ve been looking for you?”

I cleared my throat. “I left a note. It was clear enough.”

He let out a sharp laugh. “Wishing me happiness? You want me to be happy… with someone else?”

I nodded. “Yes.”

His laugh turned rough and broken. It sounded like his wolf had been worn down to nothing.

It was strange.

“Elena…” His voice caught, and for a second he could not speak. “You… you…”

He stepped forward and grabbed my wrist. “Come home.”

I struggled. “Silas, let go of me!”

It was as if he did not hear me.

Julian caught my other arm. “Alpha, calm down.”

Silas went rigid, his eyes turning hostile and feral. “Who the fuck are you?”

I had not expected him to come.

I had not prepared for this at all.

And the pregnancy could not stay hidden forever.

So I said clearly, “He’s my boyfriend.”

Silas’s composure shattered in an instant.

He stared at me like I had driven a knife into him. “Then what am I?”

“My benefactor.”

“My former benefactor.”

Why did he look like he was about to cry?

No. I was not seeing things.

He trembled as he pointed a finger at me. “Elena, you…”

Then he whipped toward Julian, clinging to some desperate shred of hope. “Is this a game? Are you trying to make me jealous?”

“Tell me what I did wrong. I’ll fix it. Don’t do this.”

His voice was so hoarse that it sounded wrong.

He had said he was tired of me. So why did he look like the one who had been abandoned?

I kept my tone flat. “Silas. We never signed a contract. I was free to leave whenever I wanted.”

“I have a new life now. Stop following me.”

Julian walked me home. Then he stood on the balcony and looked down. “Silas is still outside. Do you want to stay at my place tonight?”

I looked at that distant figure, and my stomach twisted into knots.

I had not expected him to chase me this far. Was it pride? Humiliation that an omega had dared to betray him? Or was it only habit, missing the comfort of having me around?

Possibility after possibility crowded my mind.

The next morning, I took the risk of going to the market. I looked around carefully.

There was no sign of him.

Relief washed through me.

At the same time, my wolf felt a sharp, stupid sting.

Enough. He is not your mate, I snapped at her.

To stop myself from spiraling, I checked my account balance.

Then I froze.

There was more money in it.

And the sender?

Silas, of course.

On the way home, I felt someone following me.

I stopped and turned around, but there was nothing there.

Unease crawled up my spine, and I quickened my pace.

In a narrow alley, a broad, unfamiliar man stepped into my path.

“Hey, pretty girl. I’ve been watching you.”

“I’m alone too. Want some company?”

The thought that he might have been watching me for days made my blood go cold.
