The System Said I Wasn’t the Heroine, So I Left My Alpha and He Broke Down Chapter 08

The faint smile at the corner of Adrian’s mouth vanished the second he saw me hurriedly cover my

phone. After I hung up, I gave an awkward little laugh.

“Thanks, but no. For the next two days, I can just bite myself… No, wait. I’m not itchy at all. I don’t

need to bite anyone.”

The silence between us suddenly felt almost suffocating. Adrian gave a quiet hum.

“Get some sleep.”

The system suddenly spoke, startling me.

[The male lead is way too softhearted. It’s already this late, and the corners of his eyes are red, but he still came all the way over here to ask if you needed his scent or needed to bite him to calm

down.]

[His eyes are red?]

I hadn’t noticed, but the system sounded completely certain.

[Of course. The corners of his eyes are obviously red. He’s clearly exhausted, but he still came here to ask whether you needed his help. Seriously…]

I went back to bed, but an inexplicable irritation slowly crept over me. I lifted my arm and gently bit down on it. It still didn’t feel like enough.

Adrian’s muscles were firm, but his scent had always been clean and subtle, a faint blend of pine and cedar. Once, I’d even asked him if he wore cologne. Adrian had smiled faintly.

“You bite me all the time. You think I’d dare wear anything strong enough to irritate you?”

Annoyed, I rolled over in bed. Just as I was about to fall asleep, a strange thought suddenly slipped into my mind.

[If only I were Adrian’s female lead.]

The next morning, when we walked to school together, I noticed dark circles under Adrian’s eyes.

“Elena.”

His voice was low and hoarse, like he was desperately holding something back.

“Two more days until Sunday.”

I murmured a response and studied his conflicted expression, unable to tell what was wrong with

him.

“Didn’t you already tell me that yesterday?”

Adrian took a slow breath.

“Yeah. I forgot.”

Only three classes into the day, I realized Ryan was avoiding me. The system was clearly delighted by my bad luck.

[I told you this side character had all the makings of a villainess. Now it isn’t just the male lead who hates you. Even the side character sitting next to you can’t stand you anymore.]

I really hated this system. With no energy left, I dropped my head onto my desk. Ryan clearly wanted to say something to me.

But the second he opened his mouth, he spotted someone behind me and immediately sat up straight. A cup of juice was placed in front of me. Adrian didn’t say a word.

“You don’t have to…”

But when I looked at his back, the rest of my refusal caught in my throat. Meanwhile, the system kept counting down inside my head. It said the female lead would transfer here next Monday.

As I drank the juice, I listened to it brag about the upcoming plot..

[So what if you grew up together? The real female lead is the transfer student who only appears

later.]

[Do you have any idea how intense the attraction will be the first time the male lead and female lead look at each other…?]

For some reason, my chest suddenly felt tight. But the system just kept talking. I abruptly stood up, startling Ryan.

I walked all the way to the athletic field behind Lakeside School before the tightness in my chest finally eased a little. Not far away, two boys came running toward me, laughing and shoving each other around. I stared down at my shoes, trying to figure out why I’d been feeling so strange lately.

Then someone suddenly bumped hard into my shoulder. My vision lurched. My eyes widened as

lost my balance and started falling sideways.

But the pain I expected never came. Instead, that familiar pine scent instantly wrapped around me. My lips seemed to brush against something cool and firm.

At the same time, I heard a sharp, quiet intake of breath above my head.
