The System Said I Wasn’t the Heroine, So I Left My Alpha and He Broke Down Chapter 07

The system said it was because Adrian had finally stopped bothering to hide how much he disliked me. We walked forward in silence. My phone buzzed.

It was Ryan.

[Adrian looked like some other wolf had just stolen his mate.]

I’d always thought Ryan was the type who only cared about studying. I hadn’t expected him to be this funny in private. The system immediately mocked him.

[Good grades don’t mean he understands relationships. He can’t even tell the difference between liking someone and hating them. Didn’t he see how annoyed the male lead was with you?]

I sent Ryan an emoji and was about to put my phone away when I realized Adrian had stopped walking. The setting sun stretched our shadows across the road. Adrian’s expression, however,

remained tense.

Anyone could tell he was in a terrible mood.

“Elena, can we talk?”

There was a trace of hurt in his voice, so faint I almost missed it. His dark eyes stayed fixed on me. I

nodded.

Adrian fell into step beside me as we continued toward home. His pine scent had barely changed over the years. But somehow, everything between us felt different now.

“I feel like… you’ve been avoiding me lately.”

He paused.

“Maybe I’m imagining it.”

His throat bobbed before he continued.

“You said you wanted to treat your biting dependency, and that from now on…

His voice trailed off, as though he didn’t know how to finish the sentence.

“You said you didn’t need me anymore. Is it because there’s someone else you’d rather go to now?”

I stared down at the little stones beneath my feet.

“I just think we’ve grown up now. I shouldn’t keep biting you like this anymore.”

“You’re going to have your own…”

The words “female lead” caught in my throat. So I changed them.

“You’ll have a girlfriend someday, and I’ll have a boyfriend too.”

The second I said “boyfriend,” Adrian suddenly grabbed my wrist. For the first time, his Alpha pressure surged completely out of control. His fingers tightened around my wrist so hard that his

knuckles turned white.

For the first time, his carefully controlled expression completely fell apart.

“Elena, who told you all this?”

“You never used to think about things like that. Who said this to you…?”

My phone buzzed again. Another message from Ryan appeared on the screen. Adrian glanced at it

first.

Then his gaze dropped to my arm. I couldn’t understand the expression on his face at all.

“When was your appointment with the behavioral therapist?”

“If you’ve already gone, why are you still biting yourself?”

I suddenly couldn’t even get my words out properly. There was no way I dared tell him that I hadn’t actually gone yet. After a brief silence, Adrian spoke again.

His voice came out painfully hoarse.

“I know a therapist who specializes in this. I’ll send you their information later.”

I wanted to refuse. But I had a feeling Adrian would just tell me the therapist I’d chosen wasn’t professional enough. So in the end, I nodded.

The system was practically moved to tears by Adrian all over again.

[The male lead’s self-control is ridiculous.]

[He dislikes you this much, and he’s still personally finding you a behavioral therapist.]

[Do you know why he even knows one? I bet he’s wanted you to get treatment for a long time. He

just never said it directly.]

[Meanwhile, you kept biting him every day, so all he could do was wait until you brought it up

yourself.]

The system wouldn’t shut up, and it was driving me crazy, I walked faster and faster, leaving Adrian behind. But that oppressive Alpha pressure never fully faded from my senses.

The moment I got home, my phone rang. I answered. It was Ryan.

“You weren’t replying to my messages. I thought that ridiculously jealous Alpha had cornered you

somewhere on the way home.”

He was obviously joking about it. I frowned.

“What are you even talking about?”

A knock sounded at the door. Without thinking, I opened it. Adrian stood outside, his expression

calm.

“The therapist at Virginia Mason isn’t available until Sunday. That’s still two days away. If it gets really bad, you can just bite me like you used to…”

I quickly covered my phone. Ryan didn’t seem to have heard him. He was still asking whether Adrian had given me a hard time, saying Adrian had looked especially threatening whenever he glanced at him that afternoon.

The person on the other end of the phone noticed nothing. Adrian, standing right in front of me, did.
