The Surrogate Luna Chapter 05

The Surrogate Luna Chapter 05

I walked into the bedroom.

Every corner was filled with the gifts Aiden had given me over the years.

The ruby necklace from our very first date. The ring he had proposed with.

The limited-edition Labubu I’d casually mentioned wanting.

One after another, they filled the room.

Each one was proof that he had once loved me with all his heart.

Back then, whenever the Carters or my father’s pack tried to humiliate me, he had always stepped

in front of me.

Whenever I broke down, he had wrapped me in his arms.

He had even knelt beside Mom’s hospital bed and vowed to protect me for the rest of my life.

Maybe that was why it hurt so much.

When someone had once loved you so completely, losing them left the deepest wound of all.

I looked at those old gifts, and for the first time, my eyes began to burn.

A soft click came from outside the bedroom.

The door unlocked.

It was three in the morning. Aiden had finally returned.

The faint scent of Kristina’s usual perfume lingered on him.

He looked exhausted.

But the instant he noticed the thick white bandage wrapped around my leg, the fatigue vanished

from his face.

Only then did he seem to realize I had been injured.

“Rebecca, what happened to your leg?”

He hurried over and immediately crouched beside me to examine the wound.

“I’m sorry about what happened today. I never should have left you there alone at the Carter

house.”

“You shouldn’t have gone through that. Please don’t hold it against me.”

His voice was as gentle as ever.

His expression was full of concern.

Nothing like the man who had abandoned me that afternoon.

I neither told him it hurt nor assured him I was fine.

Instead, I picked up a sheet of paper from the desk.

Across the top, in Aiden’s handwriting, were the words: Promise to Rebecca.

I quietly lifted my eyes to him.

“Aiden, when we found out we were mates, you wrote this.”

“You promised that after we sealed our mate bond, you’d transfer half of your pack company’s

shares to me.”

“Does that promise still stand?”

Over the years, I had managed Fletcher Group on his behalf.

Every major client knew me. The Fletcher Group had grown into what it was because of my work.

Aiden fell silent.

He opened his mouth, then closed it again. It looked as though he wanted to refuse.

Then his eyes landed on the neatly packed gifts inside my suitcase.

He looked at my pale face.

Then at the bloodstained bandage on my leg.

In the end, he nodded, “Okay.”

His voice sounded strained, almost unsteady.

Without another word, he took out a stock transfer agreement.

He signed it immediately.

Half of his transferable Fletcher Group shares were transferred into my name.

“It’s done.”

“They’re yours now.”

He reached over and gently brushed my hair with his hand.

His eyes carried the same tenderness they always had.

“Can you stop being angry with me now?”

I accepted the agreement, skimmed through it, and slipped it into my bag.

“Thank you.”

The distance in my voice made him visibly uneasy.

He frowned, as though he wanted to say something else.

Before he could speak, his phone began ringing.

The caller ID read: Kris.

He stepped outside to answer.

When he returned a moment later, he looked at me apologetically.

“Rebecca, Kris said her leg’s hurting. I need to go check on her.”

“You stay here and get some rest. I’ll come back as soon as I can.”

I didn’t even lift my head, “Go.”

He remained where he was, “Rebecca… Are you angry with me?”

“No.”

He quietly let out a breath, obviously relieved that I was being so “understanding.”

Then he grabbed his jacket and hurried out.

As soon as the front door closed behind him, every trace of composure disappeared from my face.

I picked up my phone.

From the suitcase, I took out the recording of our wedding ceremony.

Then I attached the stock transfer agreement Aiden had just signed.

Both files were sent to my lawyer.

File the lawsuit against Aiden Fletcher for bond-sealing fraud immediately.

My fingertips brushed across the agreement.

Aiden had transferred fifteen percent of Fletcher Group’s shares to me.

Mom had left me a similar agreement years ago.

The Carter Group had been built by both of my parents.

Michael had stolen the title. But she had never been able to steal Mom’s forty percent ownership.

“Sell every share I own. Convert everything into cash. And leak the news.”

The lawyer paused, “Miss Carter… Are you sure?”

I understood exactly what he meant.

Selling that many shares at once would send both companies into chaos.

If their competitors bought them first…Both corporations would collapse.

That was exactly what I wanted.

I had already decided to destroy both the Carters and the Fletchers,

“I’m certain.”

Everything I owned had already been packed.

Mom’s ring. My identification. The few personal belongings I still cared about.

They all fit inside a single suitcase.

I pulled the zipper closed.

Then I called for a car and headed straight to the airport.

Grandpa’s private jet was already waiting on the runway.

The flight crew stood nearby, ready for my arrival.

Before boarding, I unlocked my phone one last time.

I blocked Aiden. My father. Kristina.

Every member of the Carter family. Every one of Aiden’s friends. Everyone who had stood by and watched.

Then I put my phone away.

The boarding stairs slowly pulled back.

The city that had left me with nothing but scars disappeared behind me.

Goodbye, Aiden Fletcher.

From this moment on, we owed each other nothing.

We were strangers.
