The Silver Moon Princess Returns: The Alpha Begins to Regret Chapter 03

The Silver Moon Princess Returns: The Alpha Begins to Regret Chapter 03

I headed back to the small studio apartment.

My parents had bought it for me before I left SilverMoon Pack.

Daniel had once urged me to sell the place. “Emily, you’ll never have to live here by yourself. I’d never make you cry.”

By then, I’d learned his promises meant less than a stranger’s empty words on the street.

Exhausted, I flopped onto the bed and browsed Instagram. Layla’s profile popped up on my screen.

In her video, Daniel held a wine glass between his teeth and feeding her wine directly from his glass, completely ignoring the crowd around them. The onlookers were his own pack warriors, the men who’d always addressed me as Luna back at the pack. Now they all cheered and called Layla by that title instead.

I’d been the only one fooled all along.

I reached to close the app, but an incoming video call from Layla suddenly flashed across the screen. I instinctively went to decline the call, but my finger slipped and answered it instead.

Layla’s lovely, flushed face filled the frame. She was clearly pretty drunk, her eyes glassy and her mood high.

“Emily! We hit it off so well when we met at the gallery!”

“My boyfriend just proposed to me. He said he’ll never love another woman besides me. But I don’t believe it. I think all men fall out of love eventually. Would you be my witness for us?”

She held up her hand excitedly, a massive diamond ring sparkling brightly on camera. She seemed to be waiting for me to give her the validation she craved.

Before I could speak, Daniel snatched the phone from her hand. I fumbled to turn off my camera right away.

On screen, Daniel looked reckless and overjoyed. He pulled Layla tight against his chest, holding her fully in his embrace.

“Emily, you have my word. I’ll take care of Layla for the rest of my life. I’ll never let her hurt or suffer for as long as I live.”

His solemn vow tore through my heart, and tears finally spilled from my eyes.

Three years ago, he’d spoken those exact words to me with the same unshakable resolve. Now those promises belonged to another woman.

I pulled myself together and spoke in a calm, neutral tone. “I wish you both every happiness. Make sure to send me an invite—I’ll get you a wedding gift.”

Layla’s voice lit up with delight the second she heard my blessing. “Did you hear that, Daniel? With Emily as our witness, you’d better never mistreat me! And one more thing—”

I hung up abruptly.

My hands trembled violently, and the tremor spread through my whole body. The wolf inside me let out a mournful howl.

Overwhelmed with loneliness and grief, I dialed my mother Aria’s number. The call connected. Before I could say a word, a lump formed in my throat and I could barely make a sound.

“Emily? What’s wrong?”

Three years ago, I’d fought bitterly with my parents just to be with Daniel.

I was the princess of SilverMoon Pack. Heirs from dozens of packs had all vied to become my mate. Back then, Daniel was just a common werewolf who’d struggled his way up from an ordinary pack. To my family and all my friends, we lived in completely different worlds.

But I’d been enchanted by the soft warmth in his gaze. All I wanted was to be his mate. I followed him to this city, helped him build his own pack and start his company. I stood by his side as he rose to become the pack’s Alpha. Yet in the end, he’d abandoned me—the Luna who’d stayed loyal through everything.

Looking back on my foolish younger self, I felt nothing but bitter irony.

“Daniel… he doesn’t love me anymore.”

A heavy silence hung on the line, lasting what felt like an eternity.

After a few long seconds, my father Matthew’s deep, firm voice came through. “Come home, my child. The SilverMoon Pack will always be here for you.”
