The Silver Moon Princess Returns: The Alpha Begins to Regret Chapter 01

The Silver Moon Princess Returns: The Alpha Begins to Regret Chapter 01

Daniel was cursed with Lunar Withering—a strange affliction that let no one touch him except his fated mate.

I once naively thought I was the one who could save him.

But these days, an unfamiliar Omega’s scent lingered on his skin, soft but impossible to miss.

One wild, thunderous night, he stumbled home completely wasted. In his stupor, he pulled me tight against him.

“Layla, don’t be afraid of the thunder. I nailed all the windows shut.”

“I wish I’d found you so much earlier. I wanna spend the rest of my life with you.”

“If I hadn’t married her, I could hold your hand freely and kiss every part of you openly.”

He held me tight in his arms while calling out another woman’s name, and we lay together through the whole night.

The next morning, I quietly unlocked his phone. Inside were over three hundred intimate photos of him and another girl. Right then and there, I knew I had to walk away for good.

But when he realized I was walking away for good, he went crazy with regret.

……

His chat logs with the girl were completely empty. The only clue was the gallery in the photos. It seemed to be near the pack house.

I stared at Daniel sleeping soundly beside me, replaying the name he’d murmured affectionately in our intimate moments the night before. I set his phone back where it belonged, fixed myself up, and went to the gallery alone.

I wanted to see for myself what kind of Omega could occupy his thoughts even as he held me.

The moment I stepped through the gallery doors, my eyes landed on the girl from Daniel’s photos. She had her hair pulled up into a high ponytail, chatting away with the people around her. She brimmed with liveliness, and I couldn’t tear my eyes off her.

This was Layla. The woman Daniel would rather be with than me.

I plucked up my courage and stepped inside, hoping to get a closer look at her.

Suddenly, a heavy object came crashing down from upstairs. I couldn’t dodge in time. It slammed into my arm, slicing open a gash across my skin.

“Damn it! That’s my phone! If it’s damaged, you’re gonna pay for it!” A rough voice shouted from above. A burly man stood there, exuding a strong rogue scent.

The pain in my arm was so intense I couldn’t even argue with him.

Then the girl ran over. She carefully checked my wound, then stormed upstairs to confront the man.

“Sir, you tossed an object down from the upper floor and injured this woman, and you’re demanding she pay for your phone?” she said. “Apologize to her right now, or I’m calling the pack patrol!”

The moment the man heard “pack patrol,” all his aggression vanished. Rogues never get the benefit of the doubt around pack law, and he knew it all too well. He lowered his head, walked over to me, and muttered a quiet apology. Then he grabbed the object that had hit me and fled.

The girl led me to an office next door. She pulled out a first-aid kit and carefully bandaged my wound. Her bright eyes gleamed in the sunlight, making her delicate features even more beautiful.

In that moment, I understood why Daniel was so completely taken with her.

“There we go. Keep this wound dry while it heals, okay?” she said. “I’m Layla, the owner of this gallery. I’m so sorry about what just happened”

Watching her apologize to me, I thought back to when I first left SilverMoon Pack and followed Daniel here. My first job had been apologizing to strangers on the phone all day long.

But here she was, barely twenty years old, and she already owned her own gallery.

I suddenly remembered something. In the company ledgers, Daniel transferred a large sum of money to an account every single month. The account belonged to this very gallery: [Layla’s Dream.]

“So you’ve been cheating on me for a year, Daniel.”

I didn’t know how to face Layla. All I could manage was a quiet, “Thank you.”

“Don’t mention it. Let’s exchange contact info. I’ll cover all your medical bills—just reach out anytime.” Before I could respond, she sent me a friend request on Instagram. ” Awesome! So you’re Emily? Let’s be friends from now on!”

She really was likable. If she weren’t involved with Daniel, we actually could have been good friends.

I opened my mouth to explain why I had come, but a familiar honk came from outside. I looked toward the door. Daniel’s car was parked right in front.

“Emily, my boyfriend’s here to get me! Wanna grab dinner with us?” Layla invited me happily.

How was I supposed to answer that?

Hey kid, I should be inviting you. Your boyfriend is my mate. You’re just his kept woman.

I couldn’t say it. Not now, at least.

“No, thanks. I don’t want to intrude.” I bit back the bitterness in my tone as I turned her down.

Daniel got out of the car and opened the passenger door for her, smiling softly. It was the same smile he had worn at our marking ceremony, when he made me a promise.

“Layla, my passenger seat is for you and only you.”

That vow had turned into a total farce now.

Daniel must have felt my gaze. He looked toward the gallery. I didn’t hide. Our eyes met through the glass.

“Daniel, I’m starving! What are you looking at?” Layla urged him from the passenger seat.

“Nothing much. I just picked up a familiar scent in here. I might stop by for a visit sometime.”

He drove off. He didn’t see me. The windows were tinted and reflective, blocking the view from the outside.

Watching his car fade into the distance, the wolf inside me let out a mournful cry.

“Quiet. He’s not coming back.”
