The Silent Wolf: From Broken Mother to Shadow Queen Chapter 03

The Silent Wolf: From Broken Mother to Shadow Queen Chapter 03

“No!”

The second Ellis’s finger hit the water, I spun around, every instinct screaming, and jumped straight in.

I wasn’t thinking at all. My body just moved.

But I was wrong. That lake was way deeper than I thought.

The water slammed into me. I couldn’t breathe. Everything went dark. Only instinct kept me fighting. And then nothing.

When I woke up, Dorian was sitting by the hospital bed. He’d already changed out of the matching vacation outfit he’d worn with Selka.

“Damn it, can you act like a grown she-wolf for once? You jumped into a lake that deep?”

“Did you forget you can’t swim? Risking your life over some prop finger you used to mess with me. Was it worth it?”

Right. He’d never believed me to begin with.

Only I and the reporters knew the truth, but not one of those wolves stepped up to speak for me.

It hit me all at once. They were afraid of Dorian. Their Alpha.

Which meant, if Dorian had stepped in the moment the news broke, it could’ve been buried fast. Crimson Thorn Pack wouldn’t have panicked. They wouldn’t have killed Ellis.

All of it could’ve been stopped.

But none of that mattered now.

I spoke, my voice calm and cold.

“Dorian. I want to break our bond.”

His eyes went wide, then narrowed. Alpha pressure flooded the room instantly.

“Christine, you’re going too far. Over something this small, you want to break our bond?”

“Are you jealous? Think I was protecting Selka?”

“She was in a bikini. If you’d tackled her like that, she could’ve been exposed. That’s why I stopped you.”

“You’re both she-wolves. Can’t you cut her some slack? Why do you have to make things hard for her?”

That answer again. Always that same damn answer.

In his eyes, Selka could never be wrong. I was just some hysterical Omega.

But Selka was the bitch who’d deliberately wedged herself into our bond, and after my child was murdered, she’d mocked me over his severed finger without a shred of shame.

I was furious. But I was too exhausted to argue anymore.

Seeing me stay silent, he tossed something onto the bed. A medical report.

“You’re pregnant. Your hormones are all over the place, that’s why you’ve been so crazy. I get it. You can be mad at me. But don’t drag an innocent wolf into it.”

“Have this pup. After that, whatever you want, I’ll give it to you.”

“Remember how Ellis always wanted to go to Hawaii? Once the new pup’s born, the four of us can go together.”

I almost laughed out loud.

Dorian. That future you’re imagining? It was never going to happen.

His phone rang. Selka.

“Dorian, how’s the Luna doing? I feel so guilty for losing her finger prop. It’s all my fault.”

“I already contacted the factory to have them make her a new one. I hope she can forgive me.”

The corner of Dorian’s mouth curved up in satisfaction, and he looked straight at me.

I knew what he wanted. He wanted me to say Selka was kind. Generous.

Her voice turned sugary and coy. “So, can you come by? I’ve got good news for you.”

After he hung up, Dorian hesitated, clearly looking for an excuse.

“Go ahead,” I said before he could speak.

“Good girl. Take care of yourself.”

Then he left immediately.

The second he was gone, I got a cab to the nearest pack clinic and booked a termination.

Ten years of bond.

I’d lost two pups.

Lying on the operating table, I couldn’t stop crying.

The pack healer saw the state I was in and suggested we pause if I wasn’t ready.

I shook my head hard.

I loved both my pups. I really did.

But Ellis had just been murdered, and his body hadn’t even been found. And the Alpha who’d caused all of it?

Right now, he was tangled up with his mistress.

I needed time. I needed strength. I needed all of it just to get Ellis justice.

I couldn’t let this unborn pup become another card Dorian could use against me down the line.

The procedure was over a few hours later.

I dragged my shattered body back to the den.

I turned on my phone. The media coverage was everywhere.

There were photos, two silhouettes some reporter had caught, clearly Dorian and Selka. But they’d mistaken Selka for me.

The headline read:

“Heir Brutally Murdered, Body Still Missing. Shadow Moon Alpha and Luna Rush to Hospital to Protect Pregnancy.”
