Leith picked up my phone.

Then he held the screen in front of me.

[Elspeth, something came up at school. I had to leave early.]

She had replied almost immediately.

[Why so suddenly? All right. Be careful, and text me when you get there.]

I glared at him.

“How long do you think you can keep this up?”

“Sooner or later, Elspeth will know something’s wrong. She’ll find me.”

Leith looked straight at me and typed.

[I won’t let anyone find you.]

My blood ran cold.

By midnight, I couldn’t fight the exhaustion anymore.

I finally drifted off, dimly aware of Leith pulling me into his arms sometime during the night.

Then I heard his thoughts.

[She’s mine.]

[She can only be mine.]

When I woke up, Leith was sitting beside the bed.

He pointed to the food on the nightstand.

It was all my favorite takeout.

I was starving, so I grabbed a fork and devoured it.

Once I finished, I set it down.

“How are you planning to punish me?”

“Will you let me go when you’re done?”

Leith didn’t answer.

He quietly knelt in front of me and wiped the corner of my mouth with a cloth.

Then he carefully folded it and slipped it into his pocket.

He cleared away the food.

When he returned, he was carrying a suitcase.

I watched in confusion as he opened it and laid the clothes across the bed one piece at a time.

Then I recognized them.

They were mine.

Every outfit I had ever worn for him.

Leith glanced at my clothes, then typed: [Those are dirty.]

[Which one do you want to wear today?]
