Elspeth’s birthday was coming up, and Corbett planned a party for her.

He asked Leith and me to come home for it.

When Tova heard we were going back, she decided to come with us since she didn’t have class.

Our flight landed at midnight.

Corbett picked us up from the airport, but by then it was too late to drive Tova home. The Marwick residence

was in the opposite direction from Halcroft House, and she was attending the party the next day anyway.

So Corbett invited her to stay the night.

The comments immediately appeared.

I stared out the window.

I couldn’t put a name to what I was feeling.

I only knew it hurt.

The moment we reached Halcroft House, I went straight upstairs.

I showered, climbed into bed, and tried to sleep, but my mind wouldn’t stop racing.

Eventually, I took a melatonin gummy and finally drifted off.

My sleep was restless.

I dreamed that a little dog kept chasing me and biting me. Even after it made me cry, it wouldn’t stop.

When I woke up, I was drenched in sweat.

I took a quick shower before heading downstairs for breakfast.

At the table, Tova stared at my neck.

“Tavia, did a mosquito get you?”

I looked at her blankly.

She took a picture with her phone and held it out to me.

The mark didn’t look much like a mosquito bite.

I didn’t think much of it.

“Must have.”

The comments flashed across my vision.

[Guys, what happened last night? Why couldn’t we see it?!]

[SAME.]

[Me too!]

[Judging by how satisfied the male lead looks, he definitely got what he wanted.]

I lifted my head.

Leith had just come back from his morning run and was sitting across from me.

My gaze dropped to the red scratches along his neck.
