After the exam, I didn’t go home. I flew directly to the Caribbean with Isabella and the others.

We ran on the beach, partied on yachts, and burned through the last of our free time before graduation.

Only when the return flight landed did I turn my phone back on.

A long string of missed calls and messages instantly flooded my screen.

When I returned to the Davis house, the atmosphere in the living room was electric.

The results from Yale Law School were out.

And I was the sole recipient of the Vanderbilt Scholarship for my class.

Apparently, after my father took the call, it took him less than thirty seconds to go from shock to elation.
