The Senator’s Daughter Is Now the CEO They Need Chapter 10

“Now all of Washington is gossiping that the Davis family can’t even provide for their own biological daughter, forcing her to tutor LSAT students at Columbia for pocket money!” My father pointed at me, his anger mounting. “She has utterly humiliated this family!”

He glared at me.

“Is the money in your trust not enough? Why did you have to take on that kind of side job at school, giving people something to talk about?”

I cut in.

“The trust documents state that my annual education budget is subject to review. But that review has never been conducted.”

“What do you mean, never conducted? You dare talk back—”

My father’s words died in his throat.

He had been about to call me a liar again.

But my mother’s sobs had stopped.

She slowly released my arm and looked at him.

“Robert, did you have the lawyer conduct the annual review?”

My father froze.

“I thought you had your assistant follow up.”

The two of them stared at each other.

The living room fell silent again.

This time, the silence was even more damning.

I remembered clearly how, last semester, I had applied for extra funds because I needed access to a legal case database.

That day, my mother had frowned at me and said:

“Chloe, why are you always so focused on these little expenses? A Davis shouldn’t be so fixated on petty things.”

My father hadn’t even looked up from his newspaper.

“When Olivia was your age, she was already volunteering for the family foundation. You should learn from her.”

I had tried to explain that the database was crucial for my law school applications.

But they had already lost interest.

That day, they gave Olivia an unlimited black card to go shopping on Fifth Avenue, a reward for “working so hard at the foundation.”

As for me, I had to tutor my classmates, hour by hour, to earn that money myself.
