The Secret Inside the Sofa Chapter 09

The court’s ruling came swiftly.

Victoria was found guilty of cohabiting with another man during the marriage and of intending to harm a minor. She was stripped of all marital assets, and due to the “premeditated harm” revealed in the recording-though never carried out, the circumstances were deemed especially severe-she was

sentenced to one year and six months in prison.

Justin, as an accomplice and for his role in destroying another person’s family, was also sentenced to one year in prison.

The moment the verdict was announced, Victoria’s parents publicly severed all ties with her.

Overnight, the two of them seemed to age a decade. As they walked out of the courthouse, they could barely straighten their backs.

They didn’t spare Victoria a single glance. Instead, they bowed deeply to me, their voices choked with

emotion.

“We’re sorry… We failed to raise our daughter properly. You’ve suffered because of us.”

Justin’s fate was even worse. Not only did he lose his job, but the company also held him accountable for leaking confidential business information.

It turned out he had long abused his position, secretly selling my company’s client data to competitors. With multiple offenses combined, even after his release, he became a pariah in the industry-someone no one would dare employ again.

Life in prison was no easier for Victoria. Once her actions became known, the other inmates treated her with disdain. No one wanted anything to do with her.

She wrote to me, saying she knew she was wrong, begging me to show mercy for the child’s sake. She even claimed she would give up everything if only she could see the child once.

I threw the letter into the trash. Some wounds cannot be erased with a simple “I’m sorry.”

I brought my child home, with my parents helping to care for him.

The little one was healthy. Every time he saw me, he would burst into delighted laughter. And whenever I held him, I couldn’t help but think back to those dark days-the unease when I installed the hidden camera behind the sofa, the chill that ran through me when I first heard the recording, the pain of forcing

myself to act heartless in the delivery room.

But now, holding this warm, fragile life in my arms, I knew it had all been worth it.

Sunlight streamed through the window, spilling across the floor. My son’s laughter rang out like silver

bells.

1 gently kissed his forehead and whispered in my heart, “Don’t be afraid. Daddy will always protect you

As for those dark people and the shadows they cast, they had already been swept out of our lives by the judgment of the law. From this moment on, all I want is to raise my son well and give him a bright and warm future.
