The Secret Inside the Sofa Chapter 08

I looked down at Victoria from above, then pulled out the recorder I had prepared long ago. Pressing play, I let the evidence speak for itself.

After a burst of cold static, Justin’s flippant voice rang out, “Victoria, when this baby is born, do you think

it’ll be mine or his?”

Victoria’s laughter was lazy, almost amused.

“Who knows? We never used protection anyway. Let’s just see whose swimmers are stronger.”

Justin chuckled.

“If the kid ends up looking like me, do you think that idiot Matt will go crazy?”

“Good. Let him go crazy,” she replied lightly. “When the time comes, I’ll just cry a little and get him to

raise the child for us.”

The recording fell silent for a few seconds before Justin asked again, “What if the baby isn’t mine?”

Victoria’s voice softened instantly, coaxing him, “If it’s not yours, then I won’t keep it. We can stage an accident’ and get rid of it. After that, we’ll just have another one together.”

“An accident?” Justin sounded hesitant.

Victoria let out a dismissive laugh.

“What are you afraid of? We’ll just say the baby was weak-maybe a fall, or choked on milk. Who’s going

to investigate? That idiot Matt might even think it’s his own fault for not taking care of the child properly.

The recording ended.

A deathly silence fell over the courtroom.

Victoria’s parents shot to their feet, their hands trembling as they pointed at their daughter.

Victoria’s father shook with rage, his voice quivering as he shouted, “You… you ungrateful wretch! Even a tiger won’t eat its own cub-how could you say something like that?!”

Victoria’s mother’s vision went black, and she collapsed on the spot.

The gallery had already erupted.

“My god! She isn’t human-she was planning to kill her own child!”

“And that assistant too-they’re cut from the same cloth. Absolutely vicious!”

“No wonder Matt insisted on a divorce. If it were me, I wouldn’t have lasted this long!”

The judge slammed the gavel. “Order!”

Gradually, the courtroom quieted.

I looked at the judge and said, “Your Honor, I believe everyone now understands. The reason I refused to hold the child in the delivery room was not out of cruelty. Even after learning the child was my biological son, I didn’t dare show even the slightest change in behavior. I was afraid they would notice something

and actually harm the baby.”

I pointed at Victoria and Justin, every word heavy with emotion.

“They were capable of scheming against an unborn child-how could I risk my child’s life? I could only

pretend to be heartless and push for divorce, just to keep them off guard while I gathered evidence to

protect my son!”

Taking a deep breath, I swept my gaze over the two pale, stricken figures.

“Now, I formally request full custody of the child. And I ask that Victoria be stripped of all marital assets due to her infidelity and her intent to harm the infant.”

Victoria collapsed onto the floor, her eyes vacant, murmuring under her breath, “It’s over… it’s all over…”

Justin sat slumped on the ground, his face ashen, no strength left in him to resist.
