The Screens Predict My Doom, I Rewrite The Script Chapter 09

The very first thing Javier did when he got back to the country was call off the engagement.

He placed the engagement ring on the table right in front of Mr. and Mrs. Colon. “The wedding is off.”

Reese’s face went completely pale. “Javier, what are you saying?”

“I said, we’re done.”

“Have you lost your mind? You’re breaking off our engagement for a woman who ran away?” Reese screamed hysterically.

Javier looked at her, his eyes devoid of a single drop of warmth. “Reese, you know exactly what you’ve

done.”

Reese panicked.

She knew precisely what he was referring to-the pink diamond necklace she had hidden to frame me, the

ruby bracelet she had intentionally shattered, and the countless times she had “accidentally” humiliated

“I didn’t… Javier, listen to me…”

“Enough!” Mr. Colon said, standing up with a grim expression. “Reese, you need to leave.”

“Dad?”

“You aren’t my daughter. We got the DNA results a long time ago. We kept you here out of respect for the twenty years we raised you, but you’ve gone too far.

Mrs. Colon kept her head down, refusing to speak a single word in her defense.

Reese finally snapped.

She wept, screamed, and hurled insults, accusing them of being biased and heartless, and shouting that I

was the shameless one.

But nobody paid her any attention.

Ultimately, security escorted her out of the building.

On her way out, she took one last look at the estate she had called home for twenty years.

The heavy front doors shut behind her.

They would never open for her again.

News of Javier calling off the engagement spread like wildfire through their entire social circle.

Some called him a jerk, while others claimed he was just full of regret.

Only Javier knew the truth-he had never actually deserved the person who truly mattered.

A new picture frame appeared on his office desk.

Inside was a photo of me in my cap and gown on my college graduation day.

He had snapped it secretly

The weather had been beautiful that day, and I was laughing happily.

He stared at that photograph every single day, completely lost-in thought for hours.

When his secretary walked in to drop off files, she had to call his name several times before he finally snapped out of his daze.

“Mr. Wells?”

“Just leave them there.”

He didn’t try to contact me again.

It wasn’t because he didn’t want to.

It was because he finally understood that he would never get an answer.
