The Princess Who Left the Alpha Family Chapter 03

The Princess Who Left the Alpha Family Chapter 03

Lucien’s jaw went slack. The rage drained right out of him.

Kellan shoved through the crowd. He stared down at me. Bloody. Broken. On the floor.

“Veyra?”

I lifted my face. Grime and crimson. “Perfect timing. I’ve got questions.”

Calyra appeared. White gown. Flawless. Saintly.

Tears tracked down her cheeks.

“Veyra. This is the most important day of my life. And you came here to destroy it.”

Her whole body trembled with those perfect sobs. “Why do you always target me? You already stole everything I had.”

“I just want Kellan. Can’t you let me have this one thing?”

Lucien reached for me. “I’m taking you to the hospital.”

“Lucien!” Calyra’s voice cracked. “The ceremony’s about to start. You’re leaving now?”

“This is just another one of her acts. You really think I’d beat my own sister like that?”

Lucien dropped my arm.

“Veyra. You’re sick. To frame Calyra, you’d shatter your own leg.”

“Get yourself to the hospital. And relax. The Nightwind Pack takes care of its own. Even the broken ones. We’ll call the best healer. You’ll walk again.”

I knew words were useless.

I forced myself upright. Jaw clenched.

“I just need to say a few things. Then I’m gone.”

“Kellan. From day one, I was a bet between you and your friends. You never felt a damn thing for me. True or false?”

“True.”

Tears fell. I couldn’t stop them.

I used to think I was the luckiest person alive. Parents. Brother. A mate who worshipped me.

All of it was smoke. One breath and it scattered.

I could have stayed. Could’ve had this world. This family.

Now I’d never been more sure I wanted out.

“Last question.”

“You already had me. Why wait until the Mating Ceremony to destroy me?”

“Calyra didn’t want you to find out. She said you couldn’t handle it. She made me wait.”

My laugh was loud. Bitter.

“So thoughtful. My sweet, sweet sister. Protecting my heart by blowing up my whole world. On my wedding day. How considerate.”

“Letting me stand there. In this dress. Watching you two lock in a mate bond. Like I was nothing. Like I was some stupid audience. That wasn’t about humiliating me?”

“Bullshit. Calyra’s not some master manipulator like you.”

I laughed harder. “Not a manipulator? Since she came home, she’s tried to kill herself a hundred times. Over a hundred.”

“Name one time she actually succeeded. You know why? Because people who truly want to die don’t need a rescue party.”

“Shut your mouth! How dare you talk about your sister like that.”

Dad’s hand came up again. Mom grabbed his arm.

“Enough! Look at her leg. Don’t you dare hit her again.”

“Dad. I’m your daughter too. You raised me. Held me. Just because I’m not blood, my word means nothing?”

“And you expect me to believe your sister had you beaten? That’s insane.”

Calyra gasped. Staggered backward. Classic faint.

“Veyra… how can you slander me like this? Are you trying to push me off a cliff?”

I stared at her. Cold. “You want to die so bad? Let’s go. Rooftop. Right now. We jump together.”

Kellan snapped. His hand clamped around my throat. “You want to die? Go die alone. You push Calyra one more time, and I’ll end you right here.”

His grip crushed my windpipe. Black spots danced.

Just when I thought I’d black out, he threw me back.

“Get out. I can’t even look at you.”

I shuffled toward the elevator. Leg dragging. “I’m going. You’ll never have to see me again.”
