The Night He Chose Her, I Chose My Revenge Chapter 19

On the day Catherine Croft was sentenced, the Croft family’s remaining assets were frozen.

That same day, my divorce agreement was delivered to the last house under Julian’s name.

His lawyer called to say that Julian’s voice was shaking. He begged to see me one last time, swearing he wouldn’t sign otherwise.

Worried he might try something desperate, Liam insisted on bringing eight bodyguards before he agreed to let me go.

When Julian saw me, he was gaunt. His jaw was covered in stubble, and his once-perfect hair was a mess. When he looked at me, a faint light flared in his dull eyes.

“Elara,” he said hoarsely, “your arm… is it better?”

I raised my hand and glanced at the faint scar on my wrist.

“Mostly.”

He seemed to let out a breath he’d been holding. He nodded again and again.

“That’s good. That’s good.”

After a brief silence, he pleaded in a low voice, “Could you… spare the ancestral house? It’s our last…”

I didn’t let him finish. I pushed the divorce agreement across the table toward him.

“Sign it, and I’ll persuade my brother to stop the acquisition of the house.”

Julian picked up the pen, forcing a smile that was uglier than a grimace.

“Elara, between us… is there really no chance at all?”

Before I could answer, a shrill female voice cut through the air.

It was Penelope Hayes.

“Julian Croft, I finally found you!”
