The Night Before I Became His Wife, the Night He Became a Father Chapter 07

“Oh, baby, look who’s here. It’s Daddy.”

Nina was sitting in the mountainside house Damian had bought especially for her, holding the boy in her arms. When she saw him come in with a dark expression, panic suddenly fluttered in her chest.

As if trying to hide something, she deliberately greeted him in a bright, affectionate voice.

But her words only made the darkness in Damian’s eyes deepen.

“Take the baby away,” he told the nanny.

His tone was ice-cold, leaving no room for discussion as the child was taken from Nina’s arms.

Then he lifted the few pages in his hand and slapped them hard against her face.

After leaving the memorial chapel, he had gotten suspicious and ordered his assistant to pull Nina’s medical records from the hospital.

“It’s true you inhaled seawater into your lungs, but because you knew how to swim, it wasn’t that severe.”

“So it never left you with chronic breathing problems at all, did it?”

Nina’s face went pale in an instant.

With tears welling in her eyes, she clutched the edge of his shirt. “Listen to me. I can explain.”

“Are you still trying to make up more lies to deceive me?”

He cut her off in a chilling voice.

“Ivy couldn’t swim. There was no way she could have abandoned me and swum to the boat by herself.”

His words stopped there.

But Nina was already trembling all over.

Tears rushed down her face. Then, to his surprise, she raised her hand and began slapping herself hard across the face.

In the past, she had not even needed to actually hurt herself. Even if she only said a few self-blaming or self-pitying things, Damian would rush to stop her.

“Nina, I won’t let you talk about yourself like that.”

“I want you to live freely, innocently, and however you want for the rest of your life.”

He had once rested his chin on the top of her head and murmured those words with deep emotion.

But now, even as she slapped her own face until red, swollen handprints appeared, he showed no reaction at all.

Everything was spinning out of control.

She finally broke down and cried, begging him.

“Don’t be like this, Damian. Please don’t look at me that way.”

“Ivy is dead, and I’m devastated too, but none of this was supposed to happen, was it?”

“Besides, now that she’s gone, you still have me. You still have our son.”

“From now on, the three of us can live well together. I’ll take care of you for her. I’ll love you for her.”

She threw her arms around Damian’s waist in panic. He did not push her away, which gave her a small flicker of relief.

Then he asked, “Are you sure?”

“What?”

Damian’s lips were curved, but there was not a trace of light in his eyes.

“Are you sure he’s my son?”

After discovering that her supposed long-term breathing problems were fake, Damian’s suspicious nature made him order a full investigation.

That was how he uncovered an even bigger lie.

Back then, because she had once saved his life, he had told Nina about his family background first.

Nina had then told him she was afraid of marriage but wanted a child because she feared growing old with no one to rely on.

Instead of going to a sperm bank for some stranger’s sperm, she said she would rather have a child with him, a billionaire heir with superior genes.

Only now did he learn the truth.

From that moment on, everything she said, including her fear of marriage, had been part of a scheme to tie herself to a wealthy family.

She had been sexually reckless since school.

She went through boyfriend after boyfriend, and by the time she graduated college, she had already had three abortions.

Because of her own health and habits, she had long since lost the ability to have children.

The year she claimed she was pregnant, she said she wanted to welcome the baby in peace, so she went alone to a small town in Scandinavia to wait for the birth.

From then until the day she returned home with the baby in her arms, she refused to let him visit.

At the time, he thought she was simply free-spirited and independent. Now he finally understood that she had been hiding from him on purpose.

The child was someone else’s baby she had brought back from a remote rural town.

“Take her away.”

Damian’s expression was eerily calm. With a wave of his hand, four bodyguards rushed in and seized Nina.

“Get your filthy hands off me!”

She twisted wildly, her hair falling loose until she looked almost insane.

“Only a stupid woman like Ivy would believe love mattered more than anything else. Was I wrong to secure my own future?”

“Fine, I wanted money. Fine, I lied. But you can’t con an honest man. If you were so upright, how did I play you like a fool?”

“Now that she’s dead, you’re pretending to be some devoted lover? Ha. If you hadn’t dragged her to the hospital, if you hadn’t pressured the doctors to save me, if you hadn’t personally shoved that needle into her arm, she wouldn’t have died.”

“Damian, you’re the murderer!”
