When Stephen pushes the door open, a wave of heat rushes toward him.

This is the first time he truly looks at the place where Genevieve has lived for six years.

The old electric fan on the floor only blows out hot air.

He suddenly remembers the day he gave her the gift. The weather was just as unbearably hot then.

He had specially ordered an iced latte for Esther in advance, but completely forgot that Genevieve

was staying in this attic that felt like a steamer.

At that time, he and Esther were sitting comfortably in an air-conditioned room, enjoying the cola

breeze and drinking iced coffee.

He thinks Genevieve must have heard everything. But she did not cry or make a scene.

Perhaps that was the moment when she completely gave up on him.

He forced Genevieve to give up her job opportunity and brushed her off with a cheap gift.

Stephen starts searching through the attic, desperately trying to find any clue about where

Genevieve has gone.

He opens the plastic storage boxes she used as a closet. Inside lies the bag he gave her. All her other

clothes are gone.

Suddenly, he remembers the day he threw away Genevieve’s documents.

The suitcase he packed for her contained the only few pieces of clothing she owned.

Only now does he realize that she had been preparing to leave for a long time. But he noticed

nothing.

Stephen leans his back against the wall and slowly slides down to the floor.

Covering his face with his right hand, he lets the tears of regret fall through his fingers.

“What have I done to Genevieve?”

“She was the girl who grew up with me. I promised her that one day she would become my Luna…”

His left hand, supporting him on the floor, suddenly touches a rough patch on the ground.

He lowers his hand and looks down.

Near the side of the bed, there is a line of words carved into the floor with a small knife.

[Stephen said he would give me a home. Make me his family, his Luna.]

Those words were carved on the day Genevieve was forced into the attic.

They were the promise he made to her.

Genevieve held onto those words and used them to survive in this family. But Stephen broke that

promise.

He had already forgotten he ever said it.

At first, he still protected Genevieve. But later, he began to feel sorry for everything Esther had

suffered during those sixteen years.

He believed the happiness Genevieve had received came at Esther’s expense.

Slowly, he started taking Esther’s side. He even began deliberately ignoring Genevieve.

Eventually, he refused to even call her by her name.

But today, Esther’s true identity overturns everything he has done.

Not long after Stephen leaves, Mom arrives at the attic with Dad supporting her.

When she sees the crystal ball on the table, she freezes.

“I was really horrible to her…”

Dad places a hand on her shoulder. His eyes sweep across the attic.

It is less than five square meters, with a ceiling height of only one and a half meters. They can only stay inside by bending down.

After just five minutes, they already feel suffocated and uncomfortable. But Genevieve lived here for six whole years. And she never complained once.

Dad gently squeezes Mom’s shoulder.

“We’ll buy another three-bedroom house and build a new pack house. When Genevieve comes

back, she’ll have her own room.”

“No one can live here.”

Mom’s tears continue falling, “Let’s go buy it now. Once she has her own room, Genevieve will definitely come back.”

“Okay. Let’s go now.”

They comfort themselves with this hope and prepare to contact their Beta about choosing a location

for the new pack house.

But before they can make the call, Mom’s phone rings.

It is Elder Daniel.

When they arrive at the pack hall, Esther is lying on the floor, throwing a tantrum. Her hair is messy from pulling at it herself.

Her originally white pants are covered in dirt from rubbing against the floor.

She looks completely disheveled, “If you hadn’t made a mistake with my biological parents’ information, my real parents would never have died!”

“You caused their deaths, and now you’re still trying to destroy my life in another way!”

Her voice is sharp and piercing, “Since you already hid the truth for six years, why didn’t you just keep hiding it?”

“I finally had a family. I finally had happiness.”

“And you destroyed everything!”

“What am I supposed to do now?”

“How am I supposed to live?”
