The Mountain Highway That Took My Love and Child Chapter 07

After a long silence, he stared into the dark. He finally spoke.

“…I killed her.”

“Mia cared about Lena. I told myself that punishing Lena would make Mia behave.”

“So when Mia started defying me and took up drag racing, I tied Lena to the seat—her hands and feet bound.”

“I put Lena in a car on autopilot, pushed the speed to the limit, and let it crash.”

Hearing this, my father lost control. He slapped Julian hard across the face.

He pointed at Julian, his fingers trembling.

“You monster—how could you?”

“Lena wasn’t a toy for you to discipline. She was a person.”

“Julian, she was your wife. She was six months pregnant. How could you do this?”

My father clutched his chest, staring at him in agony.

I hated being already dead—nothing but a ghost. Otherwise, I would have rushed forward to hug my parents.

I’m sorry, Mom and Dad. I’m sorry for putting you through this.

One slap was not enough. My father kicked Julian hard against the door and raised his fist again.

My mother grabbed his arm. “Enough.”

She took my father’s hand and walked to my gurney.

My mother looked at my head—too mangled to recognize. She ignored the blood and reached out, heartbroken, to touch her child.

“My Lena… my sweet girl always loved to look pretty.”

“I remember when you were little—you were so vain, always wearing dresses and styling your hair. But now your face is ruined…”

My mother’s hot tears fell onto my cold body, as if trying to warm me.

“Mom…” My tears fell. I wrapped my arms around her.

But she felt nothing—only pulled her coat tighter around herself. I covered my mouth and sobbed.

Now, I was nothing more than a passing breeze—my mother could no longer feel my warmth.

My mother’s sorrowful gaze fell on my stomach. The fetus had not yet been removed. My belly was still swollen—as if still nurturing a new life.

She reached out to touch my stomach and cried, “My child… my poor Lena, why did you have to suffer?”

Seeing this, my father—who had always been strong—finally broke down.

The medical examiner looked at my stomach with pity. “The deceased was six months pregnant at the time of death. A C-section now would yield a stillborn. There’s no chance it survived.”

At that, my parents clung to my body in the silent room, weeping.

After Julian finished his statement in the interrogation room, the Sterling family’s lawyers intervened.

After heated debate, Julian was temporarily released—more substantial evidence was still needed to formally charge him.

Before Julian and Mia left, my father supported my sobbing mother. His eyes locked onto Julian—sharp as a hawk’s.

“Even if our family has no power, I will spend the rest of my life—even if it costs ours—making sure you pay for taking our daughter’s life.”

Julian said nothing. Exhaustion etched his face as he bowed deeply to my parents.
