The Moon’s Forsaken Daughter: The Queen Returns Chapter 03

The Moon’s Forsaken Daughter: The Queen Returns Chapter 03

The next day, the work on the gravestone was proceeding smoothly, so I had nothing to worry about.

I took the opportunity to go to the shopping mall to buy some necessities for my family’s return.

On the way, Asher somehow got my number and texted me an address.

The Farse Hotel.

One of the properties my adoptive father, Alistair, was planning to inspect.

I couldn’t be bothered to reply and hailed a cab back to my hotel.

A Maybach pulled up slowly in front of me.

Before I could react, someone pushed me into the back seat, and the door locked with a click.

“Brother?”

Seeing the familiar face of my brother, Logan Vance, in the driver’s seat, the word slipped out. But then I remembered the last call I made to him before I left the pack.

Five years ago, with a plane ticket in my hand, I had called to tell him I was leaving for good, that I wouldn’t get in the way of him and Bella being loving siblings anymore.

But when he answered, his angry shouting cut me off before I could speak.

“Lily! Did your mother’s death make you lose your damn mind?!”

“If Asher and Dad hadn’t told me, I would have never known you faked a car crash just to ruin Bella’s ceremony! Can’t you stand to see her happy for one second?”

“Don’t you ever call me brother again. I don’t have a sister like you!”

The memory faded, and I quickly corrected myself.

“Sorry, my mistake.”

“Mr. Vance.”

I emphasized the name, stressing it was a slip of the tongue, but Logan’s expression soured.

“You’re still so… Hmph. So you’ve been living like a rogue for five years?” he sneered, glancing at my shopping bags.

“Can’t even afford a decent gift for Dad’s birthday.”

“If Asher hadn’t told me you were back, how much longer were you planning on holding this grudge against the pack?”

“If you were half as considerate as Bella, I wouldn’t have…”

He trailed off.

I let out a soft laugh and finished his sentence for him.

“You wouldn’t have cared only about her and not me.”

I could have recited that line in my sleep five years ago.

Logan glanced in the rearview mirror, his eyes filled with a complex emotion.

Then, he said casually, “There’s chocolate lava cake in the fridge.”

I had loved chocolate lava cake since I was a child.

Especially the kind Logan made.

Before Bella came into our lives, Logan was the best wolf in the world to me, besides my mother.

I loved pink, so he bought me a closet full of pink princess dresses.

I loved chocolate cake, so he asked the pack’s Omega chef to teach him how to make it. Whenever I was upset, he would bring me a cake he baked himself to cheer me up.

I used to believe that he was the one wolf in the world who would never betray me.

But at Bella and Asher’s mating ceremony, the one who led the pack in howling their blessings, wishing them strong pups and an everlasting bond…

It was him.

On my way to the ceremony five years ago, I called him and demanded to know:

“Why are you helping an outsider bully me?”

I could accept betrayal from any other wolf, but not him.

Because he was my brother.

On the phone, Logan was silent for a moment before his tone became firm and unyielding.

“Lily, you’re my sister, but Bella is my sister, too.”

“I want her to be happy.”

Those words—“Bella is my sister, too”—made me lose focus. The steering wheel slipped, and I crashed into the guardrail.

My knee suddenly throbbed with the memory of being pierced by steel.

I took a deep breath, forcing the memory away, and said softly, “I stopped eating chocolate cake five years ago.”

Logan froze, his lips parting as if to say something.

I looked up, my eyes sweeping over his hair, which was now half-white.

“This isn’t the way back to the hotel. Where are you taking me?”

Logan’s throat tightened. “To Dad’s birthday celebration,” he said quietly.
